Ilermiston, Ore., May 16. That the Umatilla government project will be a fruit section Is shown by the num ber of fruit companies that have been formed and are holding water right under this project. These companies are incorporated under the state law of Oregon, with the principal office at Hermlston, each company having a general manager located at the pro Ject. The stock that Is issued by these companies is assessable. Most of these companies are now clearing their lunds, some putting in onions, etc., but all are putting in fruit trees and getting their land In shape. The following companies have made ap plication for water rights under this project at the present time: No. Acres Anthony Wayne Fruit Co 40 Indiana Oregon Fru't Co 40 Ft. Wayne Fruit Co 40 IVnn. -Oregon Fruit Co 40 I'resaue Isle Fruit Co 40 F.ne-Oregon Fruit Co 40 Pa. Fruit Co 40 Keystone Fruit Co 40 There are also several more com panies formed, but have not as yet made their api lication for water. The above compun'es are composed or people from Erie, Ta., and Ft. Wayne, Indiana. All l ave brought their peo ple out here, implements, wagons, etc. C. L. This will be located betweo-i the Umatilla Storage and Commission company building and the govern ment warehouse, on the railroad right of way. A large force of men are now erecting the new building. There is quite a little talk of start ing an Elks' club at Hermlston, an there are over twenty of tho antlercd herd In this city. Twelve hours of senior gaiety closed last night when nine excursion cars at Newport were crowded full for the return of the students and faculty of the Oregon agricultural college at the end of Rho dodendron Day, tho annual senior ex cursion day. As early as S a. m. some of the co eds at tho girls' dormitory were stir ring, making preparations for the long day's Jaunt to the coast, packing lunches and digging out last year's beach hats from obscure corners. The electric bells rang to wake those who still slept at 4:16 a. m., and by 6:16 all the boys and girls and the chap erones (one for each "bunch") were aboard a nine-car excursion train and speeding coastward. . .
