For that reason local buyers will be com pelled to bid up. For the general run of wethers the price hero la 31 .75. At Omaha It Is (5.25. Lambs are quot ed hero at $5.50 for best quality, whllo the Omaha price Is $6.45. Port land Is quoting 4.25 for ewes while at Omuha the market stands around $5.00. While thero was a further drop In the price of hogs ut eastern centers the local market was practically un changed this morning. Extra fine light stuff Is generally quoted around $8.00. Two loads of Montana cattle came fi rward to the yards today. Demand li prnctlcully as previouHly reported. Trices are showing no change. Egg Prices Firm. Egg prices stand no higher than 21c a dozen. While thero has been talk of still higher values, nothing above 21c lias been confirmed along the street. Sales that were made be yond this arc said to Include delivery, which would take off the additional cent a dozen charged. Receipts of eggs are Increasing. "1 will sell anyone all the eggs they want at 21c a dozen," says Harry Wimple of tlio Wimple Produce company. "Thero Is a lot of hot air about the egg market, but If anyone wants to buy today I will sell at the price quoU cd. Those that are nuking more will have to come down from their high horse, because the market will not stand it." Offering of eastern eggs at 19c a df zen by the carlots has had the ef fect of quieting the excited dealers who received a case now and then, and on this account try to establish a market. Once In a while a small handler will be able to secure a frac tional advance over the market, but the price Is generally made on what the bulk of the street's receipts will move at. Sensational Barley Advance. Sensational advances are being forc ed in the coarse grain market as the, result of extremely higher prices In the east. A shortage in the offerings of barley, has sent eastern quotations to the highest point since 1886. Locally there has been a further ad vance of $1 a ton In the price of feed bnrley, quotations ranging between $25 and $25.50 and purchases hard to make ut the advancing figures. Eastern interests continue to de mand our brewing barley at Interior centers and are secretly bidding much higher nrlces than those available publicly. Oats market here has been affected by the sharply higher price for barley and as high as $28.50 is being offered for No. 1 white here. Wheat market shows an advance of a cent higher, bolh for club and bluestcm. Principal millers sny they are not in the market at all Just now. The Chicago Inter-Ocean today says of the barley situation there: "Fancy malting barley sold at $ 1.13 yesterday, the highest since Septem ber, 18S6. In 1907 prices touched $1.10, while In 1888 sales were mado nt $1.02. An advance of 912c In a week has been absolutely without speculation and It Is doubtful If val ues would have reached such a fig ure if thero had been trading in bar ley mutures, as the matters might have bought for future delivery some time ago, which would have neces sitated bringing all the Pacific coast surplus to markets In the central west to make deliveries and would have stopped exports from the Pacific coast at comparatively low prices. "Although malters were anxious buyers yesterday, they expressed the opinion at the close that the advance was about enough for tho time being, as they have secured fairly liberal supply by purchases made to arrive and even the most rampant bulls re garded tho market as strained, al though they continued to predict $1.25 Inter In the season." Carl Kupers is the proud owner of a 4 5 horsepower Glide nut. It Is a seven passenger car and a beauty. Both chop mills have been running recent I v one being busy night and day. They will another rabbit falls Into the reser voir, v Mr. Wra. Albee Is about the busiest man about town. He has an Incubu tor and has hatched two lots of chicks. Trying to take care of them keeps him scratching. C. C. Hopper, the warehouse man, reports about 10,000 sacks of wheat sold and ready for, shipment. Your regular correspondent said Mr. Hermann was stocking up In an ticipation of a big run during the coming season, Now if he had taken a trip about town he would have seen that all other business men had been and are still adding to their already large stocks with the same end in view. P. L. Behrens and E. J. Saunders have Just returned from their moun tain homo. They made the trip by wagon and drove right down Main street to show off, but then we know the boys. There was a special meeting of the council the other evening to change the drug store license so as to be in the name of Mr. Carpenter. Mr. Chas. Logan was host at a stag dinner last Thursday.
