Three right up to the minute acta were given and Judging from the hearty and prolong ed applause as well as the general ex pressions of approval, the company's stay here will probe a success. It certainly was a great show at popular prices. Pendleton's football season will be formally opened on Matlock field to morrow afternoon with a game be tween the Pendleton high school and Pearson's Academy teams. The game will not only be the first of the sea son but it will be the last one to be played In ' this city until Thanksgiv ing when It is hoped by the local management that a game will be play ed here between the local team and one of the strong Portland teams. It was originally intended to play Columbia College but as that team has disbanded since its defeat by Pear son's Academy, the latter team was se cured Instead. Though , the locals will go into the game tomorrow somewhat crippled and with several new men in the line up it is believed that victory will perch on the Pendleton banner at the close of the contest. At the opening of the game there will be an entire new back field with the exception of Devlne who will be in his regular po sition at fullback. Chapman will take Kimball's place at quarter while C. Jordan and McDonald will start out at half in place of Bowman and Thompson. A. .Jordan will play center, while Finnell, Strangier, and Houser, and Carroll will all be given a chance at the guard positions. Snider, Hind- ' .1 .,..nIn ...111 nlntt th. The game will be called at 2:30. Considerable Interest attaches to this contest by reason of the fact that It will be the first game ever played In Pendleton under the new rules. Instead of being played In two halves as formerly it will be played In four Quarters. There are also several other radical changes which leaves the game an altogether different looking affair than any other footoan con test witnessed on a local rieia. Rally Tonight The regular annual football rally will be held on the high school cam pus this evening. The torch will be applied to the bon fire about 7:15 and after the usual (spirit enthusing performnnce about the fire the par ticipants will form a line of march for a parade of the principal streets of the city. "TIio Chocolate Soldier" Expects Run of Many Months. London. The success scored by "The- Chocolate Soldier" In America hns been repeated in London and If the present indications are of any value In forming an estimate of the piece's chances it should run at the Lyric for many months. This condition of things Is. so far as the London production Is concerned, due almost entirely to the quality of Oscar Strauss' music with Its haunt ing waits melody which the people whistle and hum as they linger after the final curtain has fallen. The cast contains no name of special magnetism and the performance re veals no work of striking Individuality. It Is moderately good all around, while the comedy element of the show Is moderately middling. Bu the waltz, "My Life Is Lonely," has done the town, nnd Fred C. Whitney, who brought the piece from America, is so happy about It rtmt he will, he says at once begin on plans for further productions on this side.
