Dr. W. R. Campbell came In this morning from his Holdman ranch, bringing four different samples of wheat to be exhibited at the district fair this fall. OEPOT OPENED 10 PUBLIC The new O. R. & X. passenger depot was opened to the public this morning and the transfer from the old to the new building has now been complet ed. The first tickets sold were by Ticket Agent Smith and they were purchased by passengers going West on No. 1. Coincident with the commence ment of the removal task, House Mover Cornfield began operations pre paratory to moving the old structure to its new location, Just east of the freight warehouse and this work will be rushed as rapidly as possible. The building is being cut In two and will be moved In two sections. . Work is also being rushed on the concrete walks and altogether there Is a general air of activity about the depot grounds. It will probably be several weeks, if not months, before all the changes contemplated are com pleted, but the occupancy of the new depot is a long step toward that end. Construction work on the building occupied today was started several months ago. BOARD SELECTS NEW LIBRARIAN Wild Man in Woods. Roseburg. Ore. Suffering from de lirium tremens, J. J. Kirby, a Coos county sewing machine salesman, spent the larger part of Tuesday un clad In the chilling air of Brewster Canyon. 30 miles southwest of this city. While being brought here Tues day morning in a buggy, Klrby broke loose from his custodian and. fled into the woods. Late in the evening he was found by searchers in a nude state, shivering, under a ledge of rock overhanging Brewster Creek. He seemed to have partially regained his mental balance and made no effort to renew his flight. He is now In the custody of the authorities here and Is improving. Miss Elizabeth Topping is Pendle ton's new librarian. She was elected to that position by the library board some time ago and arrived" this morn ing from New York to take charge of Pendleton's free public library. Miss Topping is an Oregon girl but has been in the east for some time. She Is a graduate, of Cornell Univer sity and also of the New York State library school. She la well qualified for this position and though this is the first library of which she has had complete charge she has had a great deal of experience In library work, before taking up the library course as well as during that time. The board feels that in Miss Top ping it has secured a llbarian who will continue the good work started by Miss Batterson, who resigned sev eral weeks ago to accept a position with the Seattle Library association. THIRTY-TWO BILLS WILL GO BEFORE THE PEOPLE licit Wilson Resigns, Bert Wilson, who has served effi ciently in the capacity of deputy sher iff of L'niatilla county for more than three years, has resigned that position to accept one with the O. R. & N. company. His new position Is that of claim adjustor for the railroad company and he leaves tomorrow for Portland to begin his new duties. Wilson has proved a most efficient officer at all times and his departure i. deeply regretted by Sheriff Taylor. Law Firm to Move. The law firm of Carter & Smythe is to have new offices. The change is to be made In a few days and when completed, Messrs. Carter and Smythe will be occupying the offices on the first floor of the American bank building, formerly occupied by the city as a city hall. The entrance is from Alta street and instead of be ing located on the second floor as for merly, the attorneys will be located on the first floor of the same building. More than 100 33rd degree baseball fans are expected over from Walla Walla tomorrow to witness the after noon contests here between Bade's Mixtures and Frazler's Colts. Both are amateur aggregations and it Is be lieved that the two teams are very evenly matched. For that reason the bugs In Pendleton, as well as Walla Walla, are looking forward to a first class exhibition of the national sport. The lineup of the Pendleton team will be practically the same as In the last two games of the Blue Moun tain league series, according to Mana ger Frazier. Therefore 'it Is confi dently expected that the visitors will know they have been In a ball game when the contest is over. A return, match will be played In Walla Walla, next Sunday and if the attendance at these two games justify a series of six games will be arrang ed for these two teams. This Is a consumatlon devotely to be wished for by every ardent fan, for Pendleton and Walla Walla are ancient rivals on the diamond and nothing brings keener joy to a Pendletonian than a baseball victory over the Garden City. VORKIfJGMEN'S CLOTHING GO. Precinct Boundary Fight. A warm precinct boundary fight is being waged before the county court this afternoon. It seems to be a case of Dr. Henry W. Coe and the town of Stanfield against Hermiston and Uma tilla. At least the residents of Her miston and Umatilla and those resid ing in the territory adjacent to those towns are appearing before the court this afternoon In opposition to Dr. Coe's plan to change the boundary lines of the recently created Stanfield precinct. It seems that Dr. Coe would change the boundaries of both Hermiston and Umatilla precincts and would run the Stanfield precinct to within a quarter of a mile of the Her miston city limits. Amon those who are taking part In the warm and very personal discussions are Dr. Coe, George Coe, Ed Marshall and Frank Sloan of Stanfield; W. H. Skinner, H. O. Newport. H. R. Newport, R. R. Lewis and E. P. Dodd of Hermiston; D.- C. Brownell and Mr. Summers of Umatilla. ROOSEVELT DENIES KEHMIT IS ENGAGED BUT STILL New York, July 9.
