Harney Mullin of this city, welter weight ehnni Ion of the northwest, won a decision over Walter Burgo of Boston, and Jji Grande In a 15-round boxing match at the Oregon theatre last evening, .lack Lyeette of Echo, acted as referee. Tin- decision of the official could not he questioned though Hergo yet believes he can de feat Mullin. The match could not be described as a fast one for the reason that it was very slow, with the possible ex ception of a small part of two or three rounds. It was a "clean-break" fight and for that reason, Burgo with his shorter reach stood no show with his taller opponent. Mullin on the other hand, though able to rain blows without number all over the face of the La (irnndu fighter, was unable to land a knock-out. Burgo seemed to realize that he could do nothing unless he was given a chance at close range and for that reason he did not strike more than five or six blows during the entire battle. Not more than two or three of these reached his opponent. Once he staggered Mullin, but the latter In turn buttered him against the ropes and all around the ring without any serious effect. The more punish ment lie received the more he bored in for more and throughout the con test carried the fight to his opponent. As a result of the match, a num ber of La Grande men are returning home today, sadder and poorer men, while Pendleton's fight fans are' wealthier and happier than they havo been for several days. An effort is now being made to get these two men together for a bout at Stanfield on July Fourth. If th fight conns off, however, Burgo says It will not be a "clean break" fight. Pome preliminary bouts were pulled off last evening much to the amuse ment of the large audience.
