Portland Union Stockyards, North Portland, June 23. Heavy arrivals and an ovemupply already on hand, ia hurting trade in the market for sheep and lamba, and some select lunibs sold at $6.95 today. Run of sheep and lambs during the 24 hours was 800 head, compared with 1038 yesterday and 1246 head a week ago. All buyers are inclined to be bear lb h regarding the sheep and lamb situation although the present market Is quite low enough, according to geiieral conditions. Hogs are showing steadiness, al tlioualit it is apparent that any heavy run hero would cause packers to hoist the signal of distress and pull down quotations. Weakness In the east re cently is having some effect and the big people are not now buying here. The run Is so small thai, even the smallest of the killers are able to take care of It. Cattlo market has been cleaned up of the recent heavy load, and while the prices were not in the main sat-, Ifcfactory to all concerned, still, con sidering the quality of shipments and tho oversupply of this grade offer ing, receivers achieved wonders In getting from under. A small supply of half fat or wholly starved cattle will go a long way in supplying the wants of the trade of the Pacific northwest for this particular quality. Among Uio Shippers. The battle took place Sit Riordan's ranch, where Simmons and Miss Keefe stopped while out riding. It is said a taunting remark to Riordan by Miss Keefe precipitated the trouble. After the men had fought for half an hour, Riordan finding himself beaten, whipped out a knire nnd stab bed Simmons several times.
