FREE CONCERT FAVTLIOX LAST NIGHT WAS FILLED WITH MUSIC LOVERS Inauguration of Summer Concerts Proves Great Success Fine Pro gram of Musical Numbers Con certs to be Held on Fridays Hero-ater. Several hundred people listened to and enjoyed the first of the series of concerts which was given In the fair pavilion last evening by the United Orchestra. The presence of so many people at the opening concert In the face of such a windy disagreeable evening testified In no uncertain way to the manner in which the citizens appreciate the efforts of Chairman Ingram of the music committee and of Director Frank Carruth and his musicians. The program started promptly at 8 o'clock, having been preceeded by a brief impromptu street concert which served to remind the forgetfully In clined of the evenings event. Though the wind whistled and sang through the pavilion, causing shivers to run up and down the spines of those who were not dressed for winter, practic ally the entire throng remained until the close of the well rendered pro gram. The manner in which each of the numbers was applauded indicated that the orchestra has lost none of its pop ularity gained at the big poultry show in January. Future programs will be awaited with pleasurable anticipation. The concerts bid fair to prove a most popular inovatlon for the summer months, especially for those who will be nnable to go to the sea shore or the mountains. Chairman Ingram announced that hereafter the concerts will be given on Friday evening, and also that a special officer will be present to sup press the Juvenile tendencies to con vert the pavilion Into a playground.
