Halley's comet may be seen on nights when conditions are favorable with the aid of an ordinary field glass, according to members of the astronomical faculty at Columbia University. The most favorable time to look for it is between 6:30 and 7:30 p. m.. with the glass elevated somewhat above the point where the sun sets. The comet is at present in what the astronomers call the "twilight region." It is in line with the sun, and Its brightness is therefore dim med. It will be vtsible all through April and May, but at its maximum brilliancy on May 18. When the comet is nearest the earth it will be only about 14,000,000 miles away. Hanfoicl in a modern role is one which presents itself so infrequently that it is not to be lightly regarded. It has long been Air. Hanford's de sire to portray a simple citizen of the United States with the same artistic sincerity which he would bring to the interpretation of a role from the clas sics. A search for a play which would give him such a subject brought to light the American Lord" By George H. Broadhurst and Charles T. Dazev. It is a drama of action and sentiment in which comedy and thrilling Inter est mingle with delicate pathos. The play had been presented before it came into Mr. Hanford's hands and scored a distinct success with Wm. H. Crane in the leading role. The position of leading woman In the cast will be filled by Miss Marie Drofnah, whose large following will find her in a part calculated to display her varied and exceptional talents at the best.
