R. & N. station. A. O. Parker has been transferred to Walla Walla. With expectations of purchasing land under the government Irrigation system. S. F. Green is here from Har rington, Wash., investigating the 'lands and also visiting his old time friends, Thomas Campbell and fam ily. B. P. Woodward of Mitchell, Ore gon, was In the city Tuesday trans acting business. The local reclamation officials re port that the water in the Umatilla river is increasing in volume and that the reservoir has considerably more water in it than it had at this time last year. G. C. Canfield, brother of R. C. Canfield, was here this week from Spokane for a brief visit. Xot having been In Hermiston for two years, Mr. Canfield was greatly surprised at the permanency of the growth that has been made. A bouncing baby boy tipping the scales at nine and one-half pounds was born to Mr. and Mrs. Carl S. Mc Nauught at Pendleton Monday, No vember 15. Mother and child are doing well and Carl is the happiest ! man in seven states. . j S. A. Whitsett and wife departed i Thursday for their former home in : ' Tennessee, where they will spend the winter. I J. D. Rice was a business visitor to ' Umatilla Wednesday returning on the afternoon local. Russell Brownell left Wednesday for Susanville, Cal., for a several weeks' visit, his wife having preced ed him a month ago, being a guest at the home of her parents. Leon Daily returned the first of the week fpm Weiser, Idaho, after an absence of several months. Mr. Daily has lived in many localities of the northwest, but returns to Her miston, believing the opportunities here for the homeseeker far excel other sections of the country and in tends to erect a residence and remain permanently. Mrs. Daily and fam ily are expected by Thanksgiving. Mrs. I!a Smith of the Style Shop, left Thursday for Umatilla, where she will have a portion of her fine mil inery stock on display. W. S. Phillips, the hardware mer chant, returned Wednesday from a brief business trip to Portland. Dr. M. V. Turlcy reports the birth of a fine nine and one quarter pound baiy girl to Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Mab son, Wednesday, Nov. 1j. Mother and child are doing well. Dr. M. S. Kern was down from Pen dleton Wednesday to attend the bar.-nupt. Mrs. W. II. Kelley received a dis- i patch Tuesday telling of the death of her sister and left on the next east- j bound train for John Day to attend the funeral services. A. T. Booth and wife were here the first ot the week from Seattle making an inspection of the project, as they are contemplating going into the horticultural, business on a large scale' in the Epring. F. J. Cox was registered at Hotel Oregon while in the city from Chi cago transacting business. Having formerly resided at Cottage Grove, Oregon, but desirous of mak ing Hermiston their home, Mr. and Mrs. Le Hubbard and daughter ar rived Wednesday and have tnken up their residence on Locust avenue. Mrs. 3. F. McXaught returned Fri day morning from a weeks' visit at Hot Lake whore Mr. McXaught has sojourned for several weeks under going treatment which promises to effect a cure. Harry Harmore, brother of Mrs. M. Straw, is here for a few days' vif It before departing for North Yaki ma where he will make his home. Dr. M. V.
