The well drill is. now fairly well started on Its work of remedying the artesian well and since about noon the drill has been working In the bot tom of the well.- The first thing that confronted the drillers wus to get a 20-foot piece of one-half Inch pipe which had fallen to tho bottom of the well during re cent work on the standplpe. This was done by dropping an apparatus to the bottom which was arranged to pick any small article In the shape of a piece of pipe. As suon as that was done the crew set to work to remove any sediment that may have gathered. The water flow continues to be around the 100 gallons per "minute mark. When the drillers removed the standplpe cover thoy" were fairly deluged with water and were forced to Increase the stnndplpo to a height of eight feet. The water rises to a point about seven foet from the sur face of the ground. La Grande Observer. f. Roosting The Dalles Fair. II. C.
