Of the whole area, 030,000 square miles are suitable for the growth of jwtatoes, 4.07.0U0"for barley, 818.000 for wheat: while the pftstornl country is set down at SOO.000 square miles. Of the mines nothing very definite is t known; but there seems lit tle doubt that the Great Mac- ju.ie Pasin is, in parts at any le, very rich in mineral de bits of all sorts, including the auriferous strata and the coal formations.
