Tie Srant L ounty News. ONLY PAPEE IN GRANT COUNTY. Official Paper For Grant County. Canyon City, -Saturday Sept. 18, 1880. S. H. Shepherd, Editor We hope that people will remem ber and send us their proper name when they write for the paper. The communication we refer to is signed "Subscriber," and we take following from it: "Wnile looking after stock on Cummings' creek I came upon a pile of rocks that looked as if they had been handled; my curiosity was aroused to know what was in the pile. On removing some rock I found two skeletons of Indians; on close examination I found one of them had been shot through the skull, the ball entered the back of the head and came out on the right side just forward of the ear. The other was shot through the back bone in range of the heart I have no doubt but tnat they are the bones of the two Indians that J. S. Cum mings shot soon after the Indians went through that part of the coun try two years ago. Cummings told some of his friends that he saw two sick siwashes up his creek, but it was not believed by some, hnt find ing those two and being shot as he said he shot them, there remains no doubt in mv mind but what he killed them, and very likely many more. " Why don't "Subscriber" bring the bones to Canyon City ? THE ''G1UNT COUNTyIs'EWS." Bro. S, H. Shepherd, of the Grant County News, published at Canj'on City, has enlarged his paper to a five-column eight page sheet. -The News is bright, interesting and well edited, and the enlargement which it now makes shows that the pub lisher has received substantial en couragement at the hands of an ap preciative public. There is no pa per in the interior that shows a bet ter patronage, and Mr. Shepherd's desire to keep pace with the devel opment of his county and furnish the people of Grant county with a good paper is commendable, and we wish him continued prosperity. Portland Daily Evening Telegram. Bro. W. D. Palmer, is using his paper, perhaps, more to the interest of Oregon thai any Daily in Port land, besides working for the whole State the Telegram is without doubt the best local paper in the city. Thos. H. Brents has been renom inated for Congressman by the Re publicans. He will be remembered by the citizens of this county as the Clerk, by appointment from Gibbs, that issued certificates of election to Senator L. 0. Sterns, Representa tives T. H. Brents and McKean, Berry, Sheriff and Alex Morehead, Clerk. The Legislature reversed the certificates and the late Judge Wil son gave certificates to Dribelsby, Senator, Geo. Knisley and Dr. Ma Coy Representatives, Tom. Howard Sheriff, and Mike Goodwin Clerk. Certificates were issued and reversed to all the other County officers at the same time. Brents, Sterns nor Mc .ea.n never came back Grant County jto Jiyg, Brents, however, has done noble work for Eastern Washington. Messrs. J?, C. Sels, John Wolfin ger, -Jalftj Ieljandach, J.
