Tho Portland committee appointed lo recelva and entertain the presidential party, wired Tuesday to the private secretary to the president asking that the party arrange to visit Astoria while touring Oregon. The plan contemplat ed tho trip to the city during the t.lght and on the following morning leave for Fort Stevens and the mouth of the river, returning to Kalama In time to reach Seattle the following morning. Senator C. W. Fulton received a tele gram In response to a message sent to Secretary Cortelyou advising him that requests for half-hour stops at Eugene and Ashland would have to be denied owing to previous arrangements. The captain al so reported typhoons off the Japanese coast but the ship weathered the storm without dlfnculty and every one on j board was report ed well. CLATSOP COUNTY TEACHERS' IN STITUTE. The regular annual Teachers' Instil ture of Clatsop County will be held at Astoria, April 17, 13 and 19. Day ses sions will be held at the High, School building. Evening sessions, Thursday and Friday at 8 p. m., will be held at the Methodist church. Teachers In the county will attend all sessions.
