Queer Experience of Crew of Teter Mckmers Sunday. A verv unusual occurrence was wit nessed on the German ship Tetor Hlck niers while lying at anchor In the har bor lust Sunday morning nt about 2 oelock. The llrst and second mutes and two watchmen were standing In the passageway running through the cubln, which Is located amidships, dur ing the electrical squall which hap pened at that time, when a hush of lightning struck tne mainmast and came do.vn Into the cabin. The men were nearly thrown off their feet bv the shock, which seemed to make the whole vessel tremble and vi brate. They say that the electricity left the mast In the passage vuv and Hushed In zigzag lines out through the open doors towird the after part of the ship. There was no damage done, the paint was not even scratched, which the captain attributes to the fact that the fluid vas not positive but thut the stroke was a negative or "cold" one. The crew, which Is quartersd aft, was awakened by the vibration In the ship and turned out to learn the cause. A trembling was felt In another vessel nearby at the same time, although it was not struck. SUCCESS IS ASSURED COMEKCIAL CLUH IS ENI IILS IATICALLY ENUUKHKD. Mr. Woodtbid cald thit the establishment of the Comm.riaJ club would be a bcon lo the young men of the city w ho. as the situation is now, have i... place ! spend th-ir evenings. He stated that the Astor Club had delayed se curing permanent ipiarters bfcaus of the proios'd orgililxatlon of the Com mercial club and he was of the col li n that the entire membership of the former, amounting to ne.irly fifty, would alhilate with tie new organisa tion. Mr. Trulllng-r suggested that some plan be devised for taking over the public library and incorporating it us a part of the Commercial club. He spoke of the oth r features proposej and agreed In the lieceseity for providing a pluc for the young men. A sugges-tlon made by City Attorney A. M. Smith w is received fuvorably and will prob ably be carried into eeffct. In shak ing of the ways and means for the sustenunoe of the club Mr. Smith de precated the rental of rooms, and out lined a plan whereby members who could afford It could take stock, for var ious amounts ranging from $10 to $100 and thus enable the club to stand on a firm fxxitlng from Its Inception. It. F. Allen warmly endorsed this plun and cited an Instunce of a club in the city which hud stirted out in rented rooms with sutllcient dues to cover the month ly expenses and hud remained at practi-ci-lly the same point in progivssive ncss as at the start. Speeches were made by several gvn tlciiK'n present, some suggesting, others telling of oth r clubs that had accom plished much, but all wholly in favor tf the organization. ' Mr. Wise stated that the membership fee would not ex-ei-'d $10 and the monthly dues will prtbably be fixed at $150 a month. There are over 1-0 names already se cured and more will be added daily. I halrman Wise aPKlnted the following members of a general committee to be sub-divided by the chairman so as to meet the requirements for the work preliminary to effecting permanent or ganization: A. Besides this contract he has turned out fourteen boats for Individuals, and has one more to build. Considering that only perfect materials are used In the construction of this class of boats, and that the utmost care and skill are given to their building, it will be seen that the business U one of no small Imnortance. especially as to labor. Mr. Wilson has also under way a Bteara launch of beautiful design, measuring thirty-three and one-half feet long and seven snd one-half feet beam, for Wm. K. Tallant.
