bl's death la the fact that she leave
a child but a few days old.

reached concerning the ordinance grant
ing a franchise for the operation
of a street car line. The waya and
means committee hvae been holding

and City Attorney Smith haa been at
work drafting the ordinance but all
of ita provision have not a yet been
agreed upon.

tons, cublo measurement, of hay and
oats in equal proportions, which la the
largest cargo of government store yet
tuken from this port by a single trans
port.
A telegram was received yesterday
afternoon from Mrs. Captain Patterson
and Mrs. Goodman, sisters of the late
Mrs. Captain Kindred, stating that they
would leave San Francisco on the first
steamer for Astoria. The funeral of
Mrs. Kindred will therefore probably
tuke place on Monday. The Interment
will be at Sklpanon by way of the noon
train on that day.
Tonight, the Boston 'Lyric Opera
Company will produce the great oomio
opera "The Idol's Eye" at Fisher's
opera house with all the detail that
will make the performance one long to
be remembered by theater-goers. The

Chin Wing, a Chinaman, was arrent
ed yertciday afternoon and In the ab
sence of Justice Brower, was placed In
the county Jail to aw&it a preliminary
hearing on the charge of assault and
battery. It aeems that another China
man called and presented a bill for
money, which he claimed Chin Wing
owed him. Chin, however, repudiated
the debt and ordered the other Celes
tlal from the house, and the other
persisting, attempted to eject him forci
bly. A fight ensued In w hich Chin drew
a knife and stabbed the other in the
eye. The Injury was not very serious,
although the man la liable to lose the
Ight of the eye. Chin Wing was aoon
after arrested and the hearing will be
held today.
