Commissioner Next to Get Hunting Case. Klamath Falls, Ore. The testi mony In the case of the United StateB vs. C. A. Bunting of Merrill, Ore., for trespass on the lateral ditches claimed by the government. Is being taken before Assistant United States Commissioner Ferguson. The government bought from the owners' a canal and laterals called the Adams canal, but the owners had not obtained all of the rights-of-way. To guard against trouble, there was retained from the purchase price $5, 000. One of the laterals in question, called the Stukel lateral, was built by the Stukels, who then owned the land. The canal people furnished some of the men and teams used in the work, with the understanding, so they claim, that the .lateral should be the property of the canal com pany, when finished, but no deeds passed and the Stukeis sold the land to Bunting, who has claimed the ownership of the lateral in question. If the jcase is decided in his favor, the owners of the canal will have to settle with him. If he loses, he will have costs and perhaps damages to pay. AGREEMENT REACHED. Panama Bill Believed to Be in Suit able Form. Washington, D. C. Agreement on the Panama canal administration bill was reached Thursday by the conference committee of the house and the senate. Free passage is de nied to American owned ships en gaged in foreign trade. Foreign ship building materials are admitted free of tariff to the United States and the interstate commerce commis sion is given power to break up any combination of competing rail and water lines which it finds not for the "public good." The bill now pro vides: Free passage for American ships engaged in coastwise trade. Ameri can registry for American owned, foreign bujlt ships engaged In for eign trade. No tariff on ship build ing materials. One-man government for the canal and the canal zone. The railroad provision Is drastic inasmuch as it prohibits railroads after July 1, 1914. from owning or controlling competing steamer lines "operating through the Panama ca nal or elsewhere." The small boy walks an hour In the hot sun for fifteen minutes' cool swimming. COROXADO OFF TO ALASKA. Ship Will Carry Cargo to Northern Whaling Station. Seattle, Wash.
