A woman's "no" doesn't mean llor fnco breathed forth such raroj anything else when addressed to content, 'friend husband. I asked hor what such radiance f meant, She said: "Sir, I am fifty." I knew somewhat tho life of caro bo shunned, because can swim you'll get In and If you get In tlio will nrobubly drown, Ib character ized ns "rubbish" by O. II. Corsan, swimming Instructor, says the Kan sas City Star. Every year Corsan travels around tho North American continent tils home Ib In Cnnada giving short courses in swimming in the larger cities. He has taught more than a hundred thousand persons how to swim. Tho way to avoid drowning, ac cording to Corsan, Is to learn how to swim. Good swimmers don't drown. They might die of chill, or starve to death, but as for drown ing pooh! How nbout cramps? he was asked. Even good swimmers havo cramps. "Cramps needn't causo a moment's worry; I've seen thousands of good swimmers seized with cramps and never a ono was drowned. All they did was to turn over on their backs and either wait for help or paddlo with their free limbs. I'vo novel heard of a swimmer having cramps In both legs and arms. Even then his case would not be hopeless. "Thoro never was a caso of drowning that was caused by cramps. That may seem surprising after the countless water tragedies that havo been blamed on cramps. .Death In the water Is caused by chill or strangling. "Pooplo stranglo to death becauso they aro Ignorant of tho proper method of breathing. When they sink beneath the water they hold their air passages shut. When they If you water. As breathing ottL takes fifty the water, I times as long as breathing lu, they water you havo no time to get a fresh supply of air before they go under again. This keeps up until they breathe In under the water and thus strangle to death. "The process should be reversed. Hreathe In for the second you are nbovo water then breatho out through tho nostrils while under the water, and you enn keep It up until you starve to death. "When you know nil tho factors In the ense, you will wonder how any ono ever drowned. Only a de plorable Ignorance can explain It. Look at tho buoyancy of the human body. After tho Lusltanla tragedy hundreds of bodies wero found float ing after they hnd died. The body weighs but a few ounces in tho water. What is needed is but a little common sense, a cool head and n kuowledgo of swimming to kcop afloat Indefinitely." To swim properly, however, as Corsan admitted, Is different from mere swimming. Many swimming experts In tho past have drowned. Peoplo argued that If experts drown ed, an ordinary swimmer would have no chance at all. Corsan explained that they weren't experts nt all, and when they wero seized with cramps they lost their heads, just like In experienced Bwlmmers, niui wero strangled to death becauso they didn't know how to brentho prop erly. N'lno - tenths of swimming Is breathing, and movement Is only one-tenth," ho says.
