ItUILDIXO MACADAM HIGHWAY OUT OF MYRTLE POINT Apparently Will lie 0"o of the Rest Plans of Road Construction In the County (Special1 to Tho Tlme3) MYRTLE POINT, Ore., Sopt. 7i-r-A new stretch of rondway near Myr tlo Point which is now hplng ma,do, apparently will be an pntlro)y suc cessful ono and piny proyo to bo a solution of tho road making problem In a distance of several miles' im provement Is being made on the road out of tho city which oxtonds to the forks, ono of which leads to Powers and tho other up tho middle fork of tho Coqulllo river over which tho Rosohurg mall stages travol. Macadam HJghway Tho now roadway Is practically a macadam highway. Tho road was first igrndcd and then covered with gravel. Over this was placed coarso rocks broken to tho size of an egg or largor. Over a thick layer of this sized rock was placed a top dressing of finely cracked rock. Tho top covering Is heavily wator cd and then rolled with a big steam roller. Tho water and rollor prcssuro causes tho flno rock to cement to a considerable degreo and ns far as tho roadway has been completed it nppenrs tb bo a flno hard road, oqual to most paved streets. Will ho flood. Test Tho work Is bolng dono by tho county. As to tho lasting qualltloa of tho pavomont uudor heavy traf fic time will toll but there seems no reason why tho road should not bo n substantial ono. This particular stretch of road will bo a good tost as all tho traffic, both to Powers and Rosoburg must pass over it, so It It will withstand this trnvol It will do In any part of tho county. Find Hard Rock This class of road, tho bulldors say, could not bo a success without a vory heavy steam rollor or without a good quality of rock. Tho material used on tho road Is a rock found near Myrtlo Point which is of n par ftlcularly hard variety. It Is said that It Is tho hardest rock yet used on any of tho Coos county ronds. At tho same tlmo when ground up flno tho dust soonis to havo tho property of cementing whon wet and rolled. Makes flood Highway Tho now road la sufficiently wldo for teams or autos to pass each othor with caso. If It has tho lasting qualities that aro hoped for and If tho road can ho maintained in Its now condition it Is as good a hard surfaco pavomont as could bo do sired. However It would bo usoless to nttompt tho construction of such n rond In a district whoro a heavy steam roller could not bo used. NEWS OF PORT ORFORD NEWS OF OLD REACH Times want nds tiring results.
