JOHNSON WON OUT New York Elects Whitman, Republican, Governor, While Mass achusetts Selects Democratic Executive Summary of Yesterday's Election Given (Dy Associated Press to Coos liny Times.) NEW YORK, Nov, 4, The Democratic party through yes terday's elections apparently retains control of both Houses of Congress, although the gains made by Republicans in the lower House threaten to reduce the Democratic majority to a minimum! This is the outstanding feature of yesterday's elec tions. Otherwise the most significant feature was the dwind ling away of tho Progressive party, In almost every state there was a decided falling off in the Progressive vote, Con spicuous exception was California, which re-elected Hiram Johnson, its Progressive Governor, Early today reports from many Congressional districts were still incomplete, Tho returns showed that tho Republicans had made a gain of 54 seats in tho House of Representatives, which would mako a difference of 108 in tho House majority, provided later returns should not develop Democratic gains, That would reduce the present majority of 141 to 33, MASSACHUSETTS GOVERNOR IS DEMOCRAT (Dy Aosoclntcd Press to Coos Dny Times.)
