WANTS JETTY HKJH AS TRESTLE. 7979 THE TOUCH OF DRAPERY ON GROWN-UP GOWNS MARKS JUNIOR MODES AS WELL Aa long; as materials are so supple and clInKlag-. their very touch sugges tive of folds and draping!, draped gowna and wraps will continue modish. For the woman whose dress allow ance Is somewhat limited It Is wine to choose a dark, soft silk for the lunch eon or afternoon tea frock. It may be worn much oftener than a light shade and will be found generally more sat isfactory. Moire, silk poplin, one of the soft taffetaa or charineuse are all suitable, and many of the soft drapey wool iituffii make up moat attractively. A crow-blue taffetas with a self fig ure was used to develop 797$. The wide girdle of a lighter blue affords an effective contrast, and the gathered gulmpe of figured tulle Is practical, aa It la a almple matter to replace It when soiled. There Is Juat a touch of drapery on each side of the skirt, and the blouse la a peaait design closing In the back. This model nmy be copied In alio 36 with f Vi yards of S( inch taffetaa and i yard of tulle. The "dress-up" frock: 'of ths little miss has Its bit of drapery, too, as may bo seen In 7996. An ulbatroaa or bright silk with n touch of colored embroid ery at the belt and on the cuffs could be used with this design with excellent results. For size 10 it requires 2M yards of 36 Inch material No. 7979 sizes 34 to (2. No. 7996 sizes 6 to 12. Kach pattern Is ir cents. One of the advantages of ELECTRIC LIGHT ING is its flexibility, You can have as much or as little illumination as you need and have the lamp just where you want it on the ceil ing, wall or table, Although housewiring is now done without litter or disturbance to the household, one of the best times to make the installation is dur ing the fall housecleaning, Prepare for the winter months, not only with clean rooms and fresh paint and wall paper, but with CLEAN LIGHTING ELECTRIC. V. L. STERLING, Agent. . The Times Does Job Printing MiU'Knm Talks About Improvements at Columbia's .Mouth. "It In a capital error," says Cant tnln T. .7. Macgenn, master of the steamer Breakwater, "to start work on the proposed north' Jetty at the mouth of tlio Columbia until the south Jetty has been built to the height of tlio trestle there. t will not bo long until the piling of the treHtle Is destroyed nnd carried away. The rock In tho Jetty gradually will sink until the top will he beneath the surface. While the trestle remains Btandlng tho jotty should be built con siderably higher. "With that done now It would not make so much difference If tho trestle should be carried away, as tho jetty would be sufficiently high to permit cars laden with rock to run out on It and repair It when necessary. Supple mented with dredging, the south Jetty could be made to produco a 33- foot chnnncl nt tho entrance to the Columbia, and I do not believe a greater depth than that will ever ho attained there. However, that depth would bo ample to accom modate any vessels afloat. "I do not think tho proposed north Jetty ever will bo of any nsslstnnce In scouring Band from the mouth of tho river, for tho reason thnt the drift of the ebb tldo Is not In thnt direction. Tho money raised for the north jetty ought to bo spent on the south jetty nnd In dredging, as tho natural channel Is to the soutn. In my opinion tho south Jetty, properly built, Is the first consideration; and dredging tho second, nnd the north Jetty the last." Captain Nelson, another mariner of yenrs' experience, voiced the same opinion relntlvo to tho projected Im- provmonts under way at tho entrance to tho Columbia. Portland Tele gram. . HASKETIIALL SCHEDULE. Series of flumps Ai-mnged for Coos County High School. Bandon, Myrtle Point nnd Coqullle wore the only schools represented, A baskotbnll schedule for tho year was also made out and presonted to tho schools not represented for their approval. It has been somowhnt doubtful as to whether or not Myr tlo Point would bo nblo to securo a hall In which to practlco, hut they now feel nulto sure thnt they will be able to do so. Tho Almighty undoubtedly made Leach for a purpose as ho did tho skunk and the blow-fly, but scl enco Is baffled in determining wJat this purpose Is. It is a sin and a crlnio, from the author's point of view, to defile nice, clenn paper with the slush which Leach Is publishing in "Justlco," and If anyone Bhould tnko It seriously It is a pretty sura shot thnt Loach's pasty face would get an artistic mussing up.
