LA FRANCE TO GO 10 PRISON One to Five Years Imprison ment for Insurance Swindler. PORTLAND, Or., Oct. 1 S. J, C. I.a France, who was arrested at Co nullle for a big Insurance swindle, was sentenced to an iudeterminte sentence or otto to five years. Less than three hours after the case had been given to its considera tion the jury found .lames C. La Franco guilty of obtaining money by falfe pretenses by "planting" a body on the banks or the Clackamas Ulver and later collecting ?:t000 from the Modern Woodmen of America. Two other policies, totalling $12,000, were cashed by Mrs. La Franco, who was indicted jointly with her hus band, but who Is to bo tried separa tely. Here Is the story: "Over mountainous roads a dis tance or till miles In the splendid time or three hours, rirty-soven and one-hair minutes, went a F&rd tour ing car, winning over a heavier car, and thus capturing a ensh prize or 1000, The course was from Latrobe, Pa., to Bedford, Pa., and return.
