PUPILS PASS 01 0 GRADES MANY 51 UO IS Entire Class of Marshfield School Passes State Exams North Bend Graduates Returns from the lust stnto 8th grade examination!! show that the balance of the Mnrshfleld 8th grade sttidentH who took the examination nil pnssed, ninklng the entire clnsB eligible for high school next yoor. In the first examination n few of the )ii)lls failed in one of two branches only and they took these branches over, passing easily. This will mean the promotion of the en tire eighth grade class, which was taught by Miss Maloney the past year, nn unusually good record, In view of the fact that in many coun ties of the state less than one-half of the pupils taking the state ex amination passed, and in Clackamas county only nbout one-third of the pupils passed. The six pupils of the Marshfleld Fchool to pass in tho last examina tion were Helen Row, Jennie Holms. Ruby Hendry, Knovold IlniiBen, I.o ren Davis and Story Mussen, the latter not having taken any part of the llrHt examination. North Henri Ku'ivNos. Last evening, at the North Honil High School auditorium, the eighth grade commencement exorcises were held. There wns a good attendance and nn excellent program was given. Mrs. Woodbury, the teacher, re ceived n handsome gift from the class. In a dohnto on "Resolved, that Hamilton wns a greater statesman than Clay," Cnrl Rnnb. Dennis So renson and Opal Powell handled tho nfflrmntlvo nnri Horace Ilyler. Uoyri Hnnb nnri Albion Larson the nega tive, The Judges, I.yio Piinppell. Dorothy Illblor and Wlnlleld Wood bury, decided for tho ntllrmntlvc. Tho balnnco of the program was ns follows: Orchestra. Recitation. Clnlr Cavannugh. Song, (ilrlH, .Recitation, Louise Rlslmuiger. Clnss Prophecy. Ruth Van Y.Ue. Song, Hoys. Hccltntlon, Oeorgo Wntklns. Clnss Poem. Written by Rubv Hunt, rend by Sarah Webb. Piano Solo, Victoria KJellond. Recitation, Merlin Cliappell. OR13GOX CITY, Ore., .luno 11 As a result of the May examinations 137 eighth-grade pupils in the Clack amas County schools have secured ril plomns that will admit them to any high school in tho state. 11 more were "condltloneri"nnri they will have to take further cxamlnnt'on in one or two studies cither In June or In September before they can enter the high school, nnri 103 failed. In all 3'J4 eighth-grade pupils took the test anil only 137 passed. That but a third passed clear of conditions Is blamed largely upon the questions, which wero extreme, though fair. That almost a third fnlled altogether to paBS Is salil by tho teachers to bo ilue to tho fact that an effort wns mnde In the last year of the grade schools to teach tho children too much and too many subjects that are not of practical use nnri which, therefore, they have not studied carefully. A largo percent age of those that were "conditioned" nre expected to pass upon rc-exnmln-ntlou.
