For a month beer cuts of all kinds had been selling at prices nway above the usual level at this time of the year, yet the market showed an up ward tendency, and the climax came early In the week, when the packers put out a 14 1-2 cent quotation on .dreBsed beef, a record figure, so the meat men nay. "That Is the prico at which the whole beef Bells to the retailer. The latter's quotation's to the consumer vary according to the cut, but of ne cessity had to go up to keep In line with the advance In tho wholesale market. Tho future of tho market, all admit, is uncertain, but there seoms to be n general belief that beef will go higher. "Mutton and pork, meantime eased off to some extent, though both still hold at relatively high prices. Year--old muttons are selling to tho trade nt 111 to 12 cents n pound nnd spring lambs at 1.1 to 14. Host grade pork holds at 1 1 1-2 cents. Itetnll prices, of course, aro materially above tho figures given. "In tho poultry market only a few changes developed last week. Hens and year-old chickens are retailing nt 20 to 22 1-2 cents a pound. Ilroll ers nnd fryers have gone down a notch, retailing now nt .15 to 40 cents n pound. The rnnrket for tho time Is all but bare of ducks, geese nnd turkeys. , "The fish dealers are well supplied with most of the seasonable offer ings, and prices are not such as to afford ground for complaint.
