Al though the tnanaKomcnt of the com panlca hnvo declined to divulge the plans, it has been dellnltoly learned tht tho Willamette Pulp & l'nper company and tho Crown Columbia Taper company win auopi nu cibih- hour schedule for its worxmon auout June 1. The decision to change the bcIic dulo la largely tho result of the 10 hour n day law passed at the last Hcsslon of tho legislature. It Is plan ned for the mills to operate continu ously, na now, but tho shift men will work only eight hours u day Instead of 10 one week and 14 the next, as at present. One of the pleasing features of thr proposed change Is tho decision of the management of tho mills not U cut the wages of the men to nnj great extent. It In estimated that tho payroll of tho Willamette I'uli & Paper company will bo Increased at least $100,000 annunlly and at lens' 75 raoro men will be employed. More than COO men will be affected by tli change of schedule In this mill. Tin payroll of the Crown Columbia Pnpci company also will bo largely lncrens' ed and at least 30 more men will be (employed. At the report Tom fell as if fatally shot, though on examination It was found to be only n flesh wound.
