Councilman Allen said that sonio of tho owners of property near Coal Hank Slough had urged him that Fourt street bo Improved through tho fairgrounds to tho Slough and that a wharf bo put in on Coal Dank Slough. Mayor Straw and other members of the council opposed thin becnuso the plan would spoil tho raco track and they declared that no one would bo benefitted. Mayor Straw Bald that derated roadways did not sorro to onhnnco tho vnltio of tho abutting low lots. An ordinance prorldlng for tho building of tho bridge and olorntcd roadway across tho gulch on Sov onth Btrcot near Olon Gardens was adopted. Tho brldgo Is now closed, being In a dangerous condition.
