A XOHLE CHARITY. THE goodness of heart and gener osity of the people of Coos Day woro never better exemplified than In the spontaneous and liberal offerings made for the relief of the widows and orphans of the victims of tho tragic North Star wreck. Tho (acre statement that some of tho families were In want was sufficient to open purse and provide for nil who wcro In need. It was no nig gardly giving cither, but generous to the point of lnvlshness. Everyone was prompt with a proffer of assis tance, even without solicitation or suggestion. It only required tho pitiful talo thnt women and children were tin provided for nud the breadwinner ta ken from them in the twinkling of nu oyo, and seemingly every hoart beat in a unison of sympathy that found substantial expression In liberal don ations. Tho long list In Inst night's Timos, which Is further augmented today, gavo amplo ovldcuco of tho .universal outpouring of sympathy backed In n most substantial man ner. Novor wns thero n truer exempli fication that "Tho ear, Inclln'd to ov'ry volco of grlof, Tho hand thnt op'd spontaneous to relief, Tho heart, whose Impulso stny'd not for th mind To (reoro to doubt what Charity en joined, But sprang to man's warm Instinct for mnnklnd." It was n splendid tribute to tho warm hearted generosity of Coos Day folks nnd an exhibition of true char Sty that cannot bo exceeded or ex celled. "Truo charity, a plant divinely nurs'd, Fed by tho lovo from which It roso nt first, Thrives ngnlnst hope, and, In tho rudest sceno, Storms but enliven 1(8 unfndlng greon; Exuberant In tho shadow It sup plies, It's fruit on earth, Its growth ahovo tho skies." Save f 5 Per Cent on Yoiir Meat A saving of 15 per cent per pound means that you gain one pound out of every seven you buy. How can you obtain this saving? The answer is By Cooking with a gas range in stead of a coal stove, Careful Tests show that! A seven-pound roast loses 30 per cent of its weight cooked in the oven of a coal stove, A seven-pound roast loses but 15 per cent of its weight cooked in a gas range. The difference in favor of gas cooking with other kinds of meat is even greater than 15 per cent, It runs to 20 per cent and over, In these days of the high cost of living, few aids can be found to reduce expenses, One of these is gas service costing the consumer less than ever before, Telephone No, 1 78 today and get the facts about equipping your kitchen for gas; Please mention this advertisement, Condensed Statement of tho condition of The First National Bank OF COOS DAY at tho Close of Business, Dec. 5, 192.1.
