'-tfir'tVi' t THE COOS BAY TIMES, MARSHFIELD, OREGON, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1911 EVENING EDITION. w vmpuR f i-v 8 QUIET E UT HOPEFUL EASTERN CITIES TALKS INTER ESTINGLY OF BUSINESS CON DITIONS A Mi WANT TO KXOW AliOUT COOH HAY. "Whllo retnll business is quiet In the East, everywhere there is n hope ful feeling and the only effect Is n marked conservatism," snld A. W. Myers to a Times' reporter today. Mr. Myers has just returned from several weeks spent In Boston, New York, Philadelphia, St. Louis and Chicago. "Everywhere I found a sentiment of optimism concerning the Pacific coast and particularly in the whole sale and Jobbing districts whero they are In direct touch with trado con ditions on the coast. Business men who know said that the situation hero was many times hotter than In the east nnd they were nil agreed that business would continue to Im provo here, all attributing the nctl vlty to tho prospective opening of the Panamn canal. I found a sur prising Interest In tho Coos Bay country nnd incidentally I was able to do considerably boosting as a re sult of the many Inquiries J received. While In Now York 1 stopped nt the Waldorf-Astoria whero I registered from Coos Bay. As n result every day I would receive cards from a half-dozen to a dozen callers nil anxi ous to learn Bomothlng of tho Coos Bay country. Some of them woro merely speculators but all had heard of this section and Its resources nnd possibilities nnd wished to learn more. "As n result of tho quiet tono of tho eastern mnrkets I found it tho best tinio I have ovor known for purchasing goods. In some Instances I found I could buy nt almost my own prlco nnd mndo Rome excellent pur chases. "You may say I am glad to got back to Coos Bay and nowhero In my eight or ten thousand miles' Jour noy did I see anything that could sur pass It In cither present conditions or with brighter prospects." Mr. Myers said thnt there was nothing new In his pinna for enlarg ing his business here, but thnt ho would tako the matter up Immedia tely as moro room for displaying goods la absolutely essential. Ono ot tho finest Btorcti to bo found In tho country Is Mr. Myers' ambition for his Mnrshneld establishments nnd It may not bo long before the ambition Is realized. Mr. Myers enjoyed a visit nt his old homo near Ilarrlsburg'a Pn. ,wltli his parents, saw tho big eastern auto races but missed tho world's aeries baseball games. PERSONAL OVERFLOW.
