COOS BAY TIMES ' Watered at trio postofilce at Marsh Aotd, Oregon, for transmission iVroufcj the mails as second class oinll matter. Address all communications to COOS BAY DAILY TIMES, BforshJlcld :: t. :: :: Oregon K. O. MALONEY Kdltor and Pub. BAM E. MALONEY News Kdltor DOUGLAS COUNTY REPUBLICANS ARE AGAINST ASSEMBLY. From the Roseburg Review.) "With less than half the precincts in the county represented and barely one-third of the alloted number of delegates present, the county "assem bly" held In Roseburg Saturday failed to show that there Is any gen eral demand for a return to the old convention system. This was further emphasized by the fact that over half of the seventy dolegates present were Jrom the Roseburg precincts. It Is therefore but logical to conclude that not more than one-third of thp Re publicans of Douglas county are In sympathy with the purposes of the assembly movement. This Is not strange, however, since the Portland Orogonlan, which is leading the "as sembly" movement, has declared that Its first object is to kill the direct election of United S ates Senators under tho Statement No. 1 system, which Is now one of the laws of this Slate, and to "knife" all candidates for the Legislature who are pledged to Statement No. 1. The leaders of tho "assembly" scheme aro almost equally as hostile to the direct pri mary and tho Initiative and referen dum laws. Those laws were voted Into existence In Oregon four years ago by a majority of nearly four to one. It Is, therefore, not at all sur prising that two-thirds of the Repub lican voters now hold aloof from any schomo for nullifying or destroying them. $ W I TH T H E t TOAST AN,DiT.EA,: mttmmtmtmtttttn GOOD EVENING.
