On June 25, at their home in Marshfield, Oregon, to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Sten, a daughter. LASKEY. To Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Laskey of South Coos River, a son. Mother and child are doing well. This Is the twelfth child of the worthy couple, all being alive and hearty. Undergoes Operation. Mrs. T. C. Johnson of Cooston underwent an op eration at Mercy Hospital this week. Dr. Houseworth, who Is attending her, reports that she is doing nicely. Child IB. The young child of Mr. nnd Mrs. Will Hall of Hood Biver, who drove in here in their auto a few days ago, Is quite ill at The Chandler and they have had to post pone their return trip. Breaks Auto. J. H. Bridges, while enjoying a spin in his Mitchell car last evening struck an obstacle on SdUth Broadway near Curtis avenue, ' snapping off one of his axles. Al though the car swung quickly, an elevated walk stopped it before he was thrown out. He was uninjured. Run for Coroner Dr. R. E. Gol den has announced that ho will be a candidate for re-election as Coroner, subject to the Republican primaries. Tie is now serving the unexpired term of T J. Lewis, and his decision to be a candidate for re-election will be gratifying to his many friends luroughout the county. So far, no oilier candidate for the position hns been announced. " Interest in Races. Great interest is being taken in the Coos County Race Meet, which will open here July 1st aud continue five days. The Fair Grounds s'.ables and track is the scene of great activity these days, a large number of horses working out there. Nearly every morning, there is quite a bunch of horse admirers out to see the events. Incidentally some good races are being pulled oft nearly every day in the course of the work outs. McCloskey Walnrlght, a fast pacer now at Independence, will be here within a few days, according to advices just received. TOM HALL returned In an auto via Myrtle Point from Roseburg, where he attended the Pythian conven tion.
