MALONEY Editor and Iub. WAN E. MALONEY News Editor WHEN HE COMES, WHAT? IF HIS usual luck attends him, Col. Roosevelt will be home In a few days from a journey that has brought him more triumphs than any private cttizon ever before received. Since he emerged from the African jungle his journey has been an ova tion. There was one little jolt in Egypt and another in Rome, but they Jiardly count in recounting his tri umphs. His mouth got away a little with him in Egypt aud the incident in Rome was unfortunate, but In France, In Holland, In Norway, In Germany there was not a hitch: he made a good speech in France, an other in Norway, a superb one In Ger many. The chances are that his greeting in England would have ox- ceeded all others, save for the death cf King Edward; and he returns to "M1 native country Hushed with the knowledge that no other Ameilacn over before returned to h's natlv land nfter a long absence, with so many plumes In his hat. Of course, New York will try to outdo all that was done abroad in his honor. And then what? He will be the same old "Roosevelt that ho was when he went away. Ho will not have gained a .friend during his absence, nor lost an enemy. He will bo just as apt to call any one a liar who opposes him or disputes one of his propositions as lie ovor was. His enemies will cheer fully concede his great abilities, and liis native rlglr impu'ses, but just as strenuously as ever they will Insist that his judgment Is not always best. Wo predict that his first work will Tjo to try to help his friend the Presi dent out of the quicksands In which Tie seems to be struggling. Hl3 Xrlond, the President, has a sound ju dicial mind, but little Initiative. The Colonol hns plonty of Initiative. The a strong and quick Intellect, but no one hns ever accused him of possess ing a sound judicial mind. And there -jou are. What will ho do for Mr. Taft? Tho American people are watching lor Col, Roosevelt's return, and many aro asking: "What will he do?" $983 Given Away at Needle Craft Call and Select Your Piece GRAND PRIZE SILK EMBROIDERY CONTEST.
