Frank Granholm' of North Inlet died at Mercy Hospital this afternoon from a complication of pneumonia, alcoholism and the effects of eating glass. He had long been a resident of this section. A few weeks ago he came to town and became Imbued with the Idea that he was a "hunjan ostrich" and started In eating beer glasses, demi johns, etc. It didn't appear to bother him at the time, but a day or two later he was taken 111 of pneu monia and since than has suffered horribly. Owing to his attack of pneumonia, nothing could be done to relieve him of the pain from the glass. notified Tho Smokehouse that it was to receive a lost watch the party who found it made inquiry there tiiid found they knew nothing about the matter. ' The Rapid Transit Company has filed Its bond and acceptance of 'the street car franchise granted by North Bend. To-day work was resumed on the Virginia avenue grading contract by the company. Word has been received here of the death of tho little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Hansen at Port land. The child was taken 111 while en route homo with her mother from a trip to Germany. Sherman avenue property owners are reviving tho old project of hav ing that thoroughfare graded from the North Bend Park to near the North Bend-Marshfield city limit line. The promoters hope to get it under way this summer. Tho "national air" concert will be held Monday evening at Eckhoff's Hall. Tho program will include foreign and American national airs, sung by a chorus of eighty voices, assisted by the High School orches tra. Practically every business house on Coos Bay will close Monday after noon from 1 to 4 o'clock and many for the entire day In observance of Memorial Day. Tho event will be marked by a more elaborate pro gram than has been held hero for it In a long time. The G. A. R., Sons of Veterans and Spanish - American War Veterans will unite in paying tribute to the soldier dead, while tho Coos Bay Motor Boat Club will have special services for the sailor dead. Tho general program for tho ob servance of Memorial Day next Mon day was completed to-day by tho committee in charge of the event. It Is expected that a larger number will participate than have ever attended the previous Memorial Day programs here. The general program will be held at the Masonic Ipera House and is as follows: 1:45 o'clock Buglo Call, "Assembly." Music, Coos Bay Military Band. 2:00 o'clock Prayer by Rev. Rutledge.
