' The vaudeville show at the Opera House last night made another hit while the crowd was not as largo as was expected yet there was good at tendance and that the performance was appreciated was made manifest by the repeated encores all numbers received. The old favorite "Silver Threads Among the Gold" is deserv ing of special mention, the singing of which completely caught the house. This amount was outside of the credit sys tem of the mailing department. I never saw such tremendous business as was being done in that store. It was the annual Christmas rush, of course, but tho crowds were so great that it was all that one could do to keep from being jammed to death, They have policemen stationed every few paces but tho crowds are terrific. I was glad enough to escape with my life. They say that there Is loss shop ping this year than ever before, but I doubt it. I could not Imagine any tlmo that could be worso In Chicago than right now. I never saw such pretty things, I 'shopped' for two hours and did not buy one thing to bring homo. Talk about mechanical toys.
