Word was re ceived here today of the death of Dorothy, the five months old daughter-of JUr. and Mrs.Jas. Wall of South Broadway at 'Portland yester day. Mrs. Wall and the children have been visiting her parents In Portland. The little one and her twin have not been strong and It Is presumed that the Intense heat caus ed her death. The shortage of workmen Is still causing considerable trouble for the mills and contractors on the Bay. Although a number of workmen have been brought here recently, several large employers are still short of help. It was stated today that the North Bend Lumber Company is short ten men, the Simpson Lumber. Company fifteen men, the North Bend Box Factory ten men and the Smith-Powers Logging Company and Contractor McLaln and the Coos Bay Paving and Construction Company require more help. An effort will be made this week to bring In a number of workmen from Portland. The finishing of the Eagles new building on South Second street Is being delayed by the scarcity of workmen, Al Hall, who has been supervising the construction, says it Is Impossible to secure laborers and plasterers. He may have to send to Portland or San Francisco for them. ALONG THE WATERFRONT. The Czarina will sail from San Francisco for Coos Bay Friday. The Nann Smith is due In Friday or Saturday from San Francisco and Bay Point. MISS STELLA COOK of Empire, J CLOSE CULL Teamster Injured In C. A Smith Retail Yard? Yester day Getting Along Well. Ed. Marcey, the teamster who was hurt yesterday afternoon at the C. A, Smith Lumber Company's retail yards, was reported this afternoon getting along as well as could be ex pected. Owing to the many Injuries to his head, It was feared that com plications may yet set n. Marcey's Injuries consist of a bro ken cheek bone and severe bruises around his head and face. It Is not believed his skull was Injured as he has been conscious all the time. Marcey has been hauling cars of lumber from the mill on the light track. After crossing the top of the incline of the Broadway bridge, it Is customary to slip the chain and let the cars run down on the gravity line. Somehow, the ring didn't slip off the hook on Marcey's car and he walked along with the car, leaning in front of It trying to unloosen the ring. He didn't realize he was so- close to another car and before he had unfastened the chain, ho was- caught between the cars. Had It not been for some short lumber where his head was caught and also for the fact that the car was run ning slowly, his head would have been crushed In a horrible condition. Marcey lives at South Marshfleld Heights, near E. D. McArthur, where he had Just finished a new home. He has a wife and three children. who was to have left on the Alli ance for Portland, was unable to go owing to the Alliance being un able to affect a landing at Empire, the dredge Oregon and" tug Rich ard Holyoke taking up the dock space.
