SUMNER FOURTH WAS GLuRlOUCEllEBRATON Times' Correspondent Gives Details of Big Doings nt Lively Little City Baseball Games. SUMNER, Ore,, July 5. Monday, July 5, found all Sumner tired, but happy In the realization that we have had a grand celebration, and In the memory of many kindly ex pressions of commendation made by our guests in regard to our efforts to please and entertain. The day was ushered in by the time, honored salute at sunrise. At 10 a. m. the parade formed at the ball grounds, passed down Main street, thence to the pavlllion. Here the president of the day, Mr. Geo. Ross, in his habit ually happy way Introduced the Ora tor Hon. E. C. Burroughs of Coqullle City, who delivered an address In which eloquence oratory, wit and humor, were happily blended and which won for him a prominent place In the regard of his hearers. After the exercises an elegant dinner was served a feature of which was tho barbecue meats and coffee served by those noted Chefs Uncle Charlie Stldham and W. :B. Farrln. The aft ernoon was devoted to sports which concluded with a grand hall In the evening, at which over one hundred tickets were sold. Thus far all went merrily but tho climax of our joy was reached when on the. fpllowlng day the hitherto invincible Falrvlew nine' after scoring one victory, lower ed their colors to our homo team by the decisive score of 23 to 5. It was freely predicated that the game would be won by the visitors but Sumner having incorporated pitcher Roy Robinson of Eastslde, and War ren Bessey'of Coos River, entered the play determined to do or die, and the- sequel proved that she did, amid a waving of colors arid a din such as the surrounding hills had never heard before.
