OHicinl Paper of Coos County. UNISON. NOTHING GREAT IS EVER achieved by a people save by strong unity of understanding and commonness of purpose and this applies to the nnrses of a nation as well as to the smaller communal groups of the county and city. If they have not the spirit of unity, then It must be cultivated. There are always propositions that are primarily popular, and upon which the public mind centers In stantly and tenaciously; they In variably tend to the good of those concerned and the safety and pro gress of the people at interest, and these things might operate as a les son Jn the handling of lesser and more? specific benefits. Coos Bay, with her wealth and ad vantages, needs far more of this merging and massing of the people upon tho things that must be done to cany her to her real place In the business world. We have got to cultivate our capacity for agreeing, working and doing things in a unifi ed way. Other cUies have found this out and are forging to the front, and some of them with more to contend with in the line of opposition than we have. Money is not In it with a strong commen purpose well understood and Intelligently applied. Let's think oncp' it over and get together at COOS BAY WISDOM. THE EUGENE Register pays tho following tribute to Coos Bay for its action at tho recent Port BUI flection: "TIip Coos Flay country Is wise. By an overwhelming majority of S94 to ICi! against, or about six to one, the Port .of Coos Pay bill was carried which permits that section to bond itsolf for harbor Improvement, This la tho same proposition that tho Sluslaw country votes on next month It moans much to Coos Day and If equally important to tho Stuslow. If the Sluslaw fails to carry tho measure, Coos Bay will have tho best of the coast situation; but Sluslaw Is certainly awalco to Its lntorests and will carry tho pro position by a good, strong majority." some funny things. THERE ARE SOME FUNNY things about boosting. Tho lvcrchant puts his money Into tho publicity fund and It brings Btrres, Into tho town hi competition with him, now banks in competition with tho hank, moro lawyers, an other newspaper, etc. But it is a part of the great scliomo of civic development and every man what ever his business must face tho music. It a man wants a place whore there Is no competition ho can flrd It off In somo country corner, and run a cross roads store, be tho trwn, run tho only newspaper, bo It Ir. short, but what's tho use. Would yvu live In a city of a hundred thou sand, it's full of competition with a rattle io-bang nt every stop. Tho fact is business creates business and no one can figure out tho chain. "Intimate pulse of my heart Nearer than child or wife Now that our ways must part, What can you do for me, Life? "What are the things you have done? Yon cast me out on the sands, Meshed in a blind web spun By dread unthinking hands. "Fettered here In the dark Yet drawn to the spheres afar, You give us the glow worm's spark And mock us with the star. "You take the rose of love And crush it In your hand; In hard, cold ways you move We cannot understand. "To our last dim lurking place You bring the spoiler Death." Over the Sphinx's face Fluttered a smile's wan breath. Selected. Don't be a clam, help boost some one else. Marshfleld has al ready built hers. A Coos Bay man says the only disease his children are ever troubled with is "ammonia." Tho Eugene ladles are planning to erect a fountain. The Marshfleld ladies have already erected one. A most natural question is not al ways the proper one to ask, so when a Coos Bay girl shows you her photograph never ask her how long ago it was taken There's a Coos Bay woman who is so tender hearted that she cannot bear to whip cream. She is next door neighbor to the woman who will ".ever beat an egg. In King Arthur's Time. Tho old-time folks were ahead of us, No matter what you say; They used to say "good morrow," Whilo wo but say "Good day." Exchange. "Ah " remarked the Philosopher at tho Mllllcoma, "when one stands alone in tho night and contemplates tho wonders of creation, how futile, how puny man seems! How vain, how puerile his hopes and longings, when he Is surrounded by tho eternal silence of the universe! Has this ever occurred to you?" "You bet!" answered John Goss. "Ho feels just as punk as he does when ho misses the North Bend boat and has to stand on tho dock an hour for another one." The Sweetheart. I. Springtime it loves her.
