Tho annual Children's Day exercises of Iho Presbyterian church Sunday school were held yesteiday morning and were largely attended. YOAKAM of Coos River, was in the city today on official dairy business. RALPH MATSON returned today from Portland and will go to work at the C. A. Smith mill at once. M. R. LEWIS of Pomona, Cal., ar rived yesterday to visit friends and relatives on Coos Bay. MISS MAMIE MAHONEY, C. J. MA- HONEY and MRS. ADAMS spent Sunday at Mrs. Adams' ranch up Coos River. On Prospecting Trip. Dr. A. C. Burroughs, wife and four children, and H. L. Buck wife and son, arrived in Marshfield today from Hotchklss, Colorado. They are on a prospecting tour looking for a good fruit country and were lured to Coos Bay by news of its Gravensteln apple. If they are favorably Impressed with Coos Bay and locate hero, several families will follow them to this section. New Crime Is Charged. George Cottell has Identified one of tho razors found in tho belongings of Tom Haggerty, the suspect recently arrested by Marshal J. W. Carter for the Ten Mile thefts, a razor that was taken oft his (Cottell's) boat which was stolen some time ago. This practically establishes the guilt of Haggerty for this crime. Marshal Carter believes that practically all of the petty thieving that has been go ing on around the Bay for some time Is Haggerty's work. Change Firm Name. The di rectors of tho Davls-Schultz Com pany have decided to change tho firm's name to "Western Oregon Company, Wholesale Grocers." Tho change was made because tho new title is more explanatory and more expressive of the company's business and also of Its scope. Tho com pany's business has Increased rapid ly and Its field now includes all southwestern Oregon. Mnrshflcld Ten Mile Colony. L. A. Liljeqvlst returned today from a combined business and pleasure trip to Ton Mile. Ho reports a goodly colony of Marshfield people thero. Among those spending Sunday at this resort wore Mr. and Mrs, J. II. Mllner, T. J. Lewis, Lawrence Holm berg, Otto Schetter, II. W. Skinner, Jack Flanagan, J. W. Bennett, J. N? Teal, and Frank Lamberton. Children's Day nt Eastside. r- The Eastside Bible and Sunday school ob served children's day with a very in teresting program at tho Eastsldo school house at 3 o'clock in tho after noon yesterday. Plant from 'Frisco yesterday to inspect the stations In this section. DR. G. W. LESLIE left today for his old homo Knox City, Mo., where ho will spend a couple of months. He will also tako some post grad uate work. B. FENTON of Roseburg, owner of the stage lino to Coos Bay, Is In Marshfield today on business. Mr. Fenton was recently elected she riff of Douglas county but expects to retain his stage business. J. E. JOHNSON and A. J. RICH brought In tho launch Enterprise from Wedderburn today laden with salmon. The fishing season thero is much better than was first expected. MISS PEARL WATKINS, tho Coos Bay gold medal prize winner in oratory, returned to Marshfield to day and will bo tho recipient of many congratulations from her frionds here. E. J. THOMAS, assistant special agent of the Standard Oil Com pany, arrived on the M. F. Plant from San Francisco to look after the company's interests hero and also to do a little fishing If timo will permit. GEO. GOODRUM, O. L. HOBSON and MISSES MARY MINOT and ADA CHAPMAN spent yesterday up South Coos River, tho trip being mado in Mr. Goodrum's now launch. Tho weathor was delightful. SAM MARSDEN returned this morn ing from Portland where ho has been attending tho stato conven tion of tho Eastern Star tho past weok. Ho reports that tho meet ing was ono of the most successful and most enjoyablo that tho or ganization has over hold. OTTO. SCHETTER. and, HARRY SKINNER returned today from Ton Mllo with flfty-threo fine trout to show as trophies of tho trip. As to who caught the largest num ber, there Is some debato but Mr. Skinner declares that ho has wit nesses to prove that Mr. Schetter is a prize winner when it comes to casting for water dogs. MRS. MERCHANT and her son, Ben Merchant, loft on tho M4 F. Plant for San Francisco. They expect to spend some time there in hopes of benefitting Mr. Merchant's health. Mr. Merchant is considerably im proved and hopes nre held out for his complete recovery ultimately. Miss Anna Hunt, a nurse, accom panied them. H, H. BALDWIN, a pioneer of Coos county, aged 86 years, who re turned to his native Emerald islo to pass his remaining days, found that tho lure of Coos county was too strong and was among tho re turning passengers this morning on the Alliance, coining direct from Ireland to Coos Bay via Port land. MISS IDA CARLETON arrived on the M. F. Plant yesterday from San Francisco whero she has been visiting. She expects to make her home here with her father, G. W. Carloton. Miss Carleton recently completed a four years course at the Moody school at East Marsh field, Mass., but en route west stopped at Colorado and California points for short visits with friends and relatives. At tho annual business meeting of tho Altar Society of tho Marshfield Catholic church, the following new officers were elected for a period of ono year: President Mrs. A. H. Powers.
