McCann, a street paving contractor from Eureka, Cal., Is here to look over tho proposed paving in Marsh fleld with the intention of bidding on tho work. M F. Plant. The. M. F. Plant, which was due in this morning from San Francisco, had not been sighted up to 3 o'clock this afternoon. The cause of the delay is not known. She Is due to sail from hero tomorrow. Repair Phono Line. The tele phone line from Lakewood to North Inlet, which has been down for some time has been repaired and is again ready for service. A number of Marshfleld people, including Dr. Horsfall, have cottages on North In let, near the terminus of tho line, and have been greatly Inconvenienced by the lack of service in the past. Postpone Druw bridge Decision. The Coos county commissioners have adjourned until May 25th, when they will take up tho South Inlet draw bridge proposition. L. J. Simpson, Henry Diers and other North Bend citizens appeared before tho commis sioners in behalf of tho project. It Is understood that tho commissioners are favorable to tho project. They requested that plans, specifications and estimates bo submitted at the meeting, May 25th, and this will be done. DISTRICT LOCAL OPTION VOTE IS KNOCKED OUT. Judge Hamilton Makes Temporary Injunction Against it Permanent Vote on Comity as a Whole. (Sneetnl to Tho Times.) COQU1LLE, Ore, May 9. Judge Hamilton in tho Circuit Court lias made his temporary Injunction against local option, being submitted by districts in Coos county, per manent. This will result in tho local option matter being submitted only to the county as a whole. Judge Hamilton's decision was on tho point raised by E. A. Becket, a Coqullie liquor dealer, who held that the law prohibited the submitting of the question in district oftener than once In two years. A Baby Contest ...AX THE... STRAW, wife of Mayor Straw, has been ill of appendicitis and it is feared that an operation will bo necessary. MISSES NELLIE and Martha Bur nett of Marshfleld, will go to Port land next week to spend several days with relatives and friends. P. K. GETTINS, Judge Sehlbredo and Peter Loggio composed a party of Coos Bay people who left for Portland on the Breakwater this morning. L. C. DURKEE of Marshfleld, will shortly go on the road for the Durkee Salad Dressing Company of which his uncle is tho owner and manager. L. J. POST, the carpenter and con tractor leaves tomorrow for San Francisco where he has taken a good position with one of tho large contractors of that city. CITY ENGINEER SANDBERG is at Portland. He Is expected homo Monday on the Alliance. It la understood that his visit there was on private matters. MISS LILLIAN McCANN of "North Bend, was in Marshfleld yesterday en route home from tho home of her sister, Mrs. Evan Hodson, where she has spent the past week. THE REV. FATHER DONNELLY is planning to leave next Saturday for Portland for a short visit and to look after business matters. It is barely possible, If ho can secure the time, that ho will also mako the trip up to Seattle to witness the demonstration there over tho fleet. WILHELM G. HOLL, an expert piano man, arrived -In Marshfleld yester day from Worcester, Mass., and will make headquarters at the W. R. Haines Music Co. Store. Mr. Holl has had many years experi ence with some of the leading piano manufacturers of the coun try and is thoroughly qualified to handle a piano in any condition. SPEAKIY 20 State Superintendent to Deliver Addresses in North Bend and Marshfield. State Superintendent J. H. Acker man of Oregon, will deliver tho com mencement address before the gradu ating class of the North Bend High school, May 21st, and on tho previous evening, May 20th, will deliver an address at the Masonic Opera house in Marshfleld under tho auspices of tho local schools. Superintendent Golden of the Marshfleld schools had written Mr. Ackerman requesting him to speak horo during his visit to Coos Bay and today received hl3 acceptance. McCormac of tho Marsh fleld school board, announced this morning that school would bo re sumed Monday morning If no new cases of scarlet fover break out among the pupils meanwhile. It la believed that all danger from tho contagion has passed. All of tho children afflicted with tho dlseaso aro reported getting along nicely.
