The mud. wbieh has Itecm so aanoyias to Pendleton for some time post, ander the genial rays of a February sun, is now rap Idly disappearing. So pleased are wc to plant oar feet on terra frma again, that we wonder why our enterprising townsmen do sot cause sidewalks to be coastraoted where they arc most needed throughout the town. This would be certainly both wise and economical. The difference ia the durability of clothing, such as boots, rhoes and the like, tn say nothing of the extra washing and sweeping causodby tbe mud in Winter and the dast in SBamer, amounts to much more than is ordinarily supposed. In a short time, enough would be saved in this way, to construct sidc- waits over Ujcwikhc town. 11 u is crer Intended to sidewalk the town, why not bow! It will save neither trouble nor ex. pease to postpone this needed improve rs est until the town shall become incorpo rated. Walks will then, undoubtedly, be required; there can, hence, be no philoso phy for the delay. Another needed im provement is the grading and leveling up of the streets. Nor should this be done with filth from barns and stables, which, to say the least, is not at all permitted in cities and towns favored with Boards of xicsiui, anu wmcu, ii not aireauy so, must eventually grcsUy affect tbe health In cer tain parts of the town. .Many persons materially reduce the value of their prcm ises by unthoughtediy filling up the low places thereon in this iranner.for certainly bo man would, understandingiy, purchase bbcIi property for a home, nor would he purchase any property near enough to such as to receive the deleterious effect of this method of city improvement.
