They are to tally without anyionndation, and have, as nearly as we can trace the matter, grown .omvof"- the fact that one of the children ol the proprietor of this pa per has had at the most, a very slight attack of chicken-p6x'.5 It is not'yet de termined whether it amounts to even this. There haye.beea occasional cases of chicken-pox here for the past two montbsras we arenformed, but it haa created no alarm, until the rumors of smallpox at Salem, and the death of Hon. We hope that hereafier.'inph' rumors will not be spread abroad, to alarm the people of this community. It is well to be, cau tious, where there, is danger from so contagious' a disease as small-pox, but there is uo sense or reason, in spread ing such reports as have been gping the rounds here, tor the past weelb And besides, it is positively annoying, to the families in which1 such a disease is alleged to exist. . 1 Fkoii TJmpQ'Ja. P,er kindness of the Telegraph Operator, we learn' that thn "wife of James Hutchinson, near Oak-j land, is reported bick with small-pox. Mr. Hutchinson was a member of thej Legislature during the session' just clos-' ed, from Douglas county. Through, the same source"" we learn that Mr. Caldwell, living at.'the .old Hardy El liff place, between hereand Canyonville, who was also a member of the Legisla-' ture from Douglas county, and who returned afterTthe?clasqf tae'late ses sion, and his family, are reported sick with the small pox. Rumor also has it, that several other' families in the icinity of Canyonville have it. We give this information,-! 'just as we received it, for the benefit of our read eis. If may berapr.merel-jcaud by the rumors of small-pox in Salem, coupled with the fact, that these par tits, have been there and Only'rccntly' returned, and our judgment-leads us to believe this to be the case. Every body 'knows that such -rumors spripg oft-times from nothing, and while 'we could, not advise any one, to wholly disregard them, we" would'urge every-body-not to get frightened) until more substantial evidence arriyes."
