And the said board of directors shall have power to appoint such engineers, jgents, and suliordiuates as may from time to time be necessary to carry in to ellcct thu object of the company, ami to do all acts and things touching the location and construction and op eration of said road. And be it further enacted, That each ami every grant, light, and privilegu herein are so made and giv en to and accepted by tho said Oregon branch of the Pacific H nil road Com pany, upon and subject t,o the follow ing "conditions, namely: That the said company shall commenco thu work on said road within two years from the approval of this act by tho President, and shall complete not less than thirty miles per year after thu second year, and shall construct, equip, furnish' and complete the main line of thu whole road by the fourth day of July, anno Domini eighteen hundred and seventy eight. And that the acceptance of the terms and conditions of this net shall be signified in wilting by said com pany, under their corporate seal duly executed, pursuant to the direction of its board of directors first obtain cd, which acceptance shall ho madu within two years after thu nassneo of this act, ami shall be dcpoMtcd in the oflico of the Secretary of tho Iuteiior. And be it further enucted, That the lauds granted by this acl ex cepting such as. may bo reserved by the company, for timber depots, anil other needful purposes, shall bu sub ject to settlement and to entry and hale at the laud oillces of thu United States under the pre-emption laws at two dol lars and filly cents per acre, or such less piieu as thu company may pre scribe; and the money arising from such sales and Irom thu transportation and other business to bo done by tho company for the United States shall remain in the treasury of thu United Stales as a fund for tfic payment of tho interest ami principal ot thu bonds of the United States to be issued under this act.
