do not reach the source of the eviL All phys
ical debility proceeds either from a derange
ment of tlie functions of the assimilating, se
cretive and vital organs, or from a sluggish
constitution. In either case, and also in cases
where both causes exist the Bitters will in
variably produce an immediate and sal utary
change in tho condition of tho patient and
eventually effect a complete cure. None of the
dangerous alkaloids, too often administered
as tonics, can be otherwise than deleterious
under such circumstances, and to give mer
cury is positively criminal. The direct effect
of the gieat vegetable specitic will be mani
fested in an improved appetite, a more cheer
ful frame of mind, a gradual return of
strength, and iucrease of iteeh, and a health
ier complexion. Meanwhile, however, the
constitution, if inert and teeble wili'bave been
roused and renovated by the subtlo elements

F ast R iding . —O n last Friday af
ternoon two of the boys of this city
undertook to run a race on the street
in tho lower portion of our town,
and after running a 6hort distance
the horse rode by Master Maurice
Abbott run over a dog, which threw
'tho horse and unseated the b oy.—
I The horse turned completely over
the boy, and thereby saved his life
— as it was he was on his horse in a
few moments and rode home. The
other boy, Ira Miller, was arrested
\ on the spot and taken before the
roper officer and fined, for viola-
ion of law, in the sum of ten dol
lars and costs, in all eighteen dol
lars. A warrant for the arrest of
joung Abbott was issued on Satur
day, but lie was too unwell to appear
for trial. The judgment in the above
case was a righteous one. A few
more arrests and fines will teach the
fast young fry of onr city that they
. fcannot ride through onr streets as
fast as they see fit, and that they
■■will be compelled to pay some re-
Blpect to tho safety of onr citizens
^ who may be on the streets.
Several of the citizens east of the
mountains were in our city, lastMon-
day, on legal business.
