The Dim OCR AT knows it to be appreciated and that great reliance is placed on it by the farm ing community. We need it ths who'c year and it I to be hoped no change will be made. Oregon Slate Weather Bureau cooperat ing with V. S. Signal Service, Central of fice, Portland, Or, For week ending June 15th, 1889 : The temperature ha been above the normal from 8 t ti degree. There was no rainfall during the week. The sun shine was abeve the average, The viml un to Friday were northerly, warm and dry, In sections being almost a "norther," on Friday and Saturday they were south erly. The effect ot these conditions on the wheat crop has been mot Injurious, cs peclally In Eastern Oregon. In the Wll lamette Vallev the fall wheat continues Its promising outlook, while In localities the spring wheat! slightly Injured Along the Coast the excellent crop prospect con tinue. IntneUmpqua Valley, more than an average wheat crop will be harvested. In the Rogiie River Valley the crop Is to a considerable extent Injured.ln many ec tlon however an average crop will he re alized, while In other sections the crop Is badly "fired" and grain that looked well two week ago will have to be cut for hay. In the Lake region much ot the wheat I only from 6 to 13 Inches high and Is turn Ing yellow, it will hardly make hay. The most discouraging reports a to the conai. tlon ot the wheat come from Eastern Oregon and especially from Wasco county. Sample ot wheat received at this office from the vicinity ot The Dalle show that the head are roasted and the entire stalk cooked. Two week ago thl region prom lied a large ; ield and now the crop is hardly nulled for hay. In Morrow county some ot the spring grain is Injured, but as a whole little grain is Injured ; the bulk of It l nil right, itie yieia win tie seme what less than wa anticipated earlier in the season. Through Gilliam Co. a hot east wind blew d jrlng the fore part of the week, and the result Is that many wheat fields standing. waist high are nearly com pletely ruined, except for hay. The dam age is not general and a good yield is yet expected. In Umatilla Co., especially around Veion, the dry, hot winds have damaged the wheat. r"rom the Indln Reservation, nnd the east end ot the coun ty reports of little or no damage to the wheat are received. White there I a gloomy outlook for an Immense yield, yet for the State a a whole there will be an- average yield. Crop do not fall In Ore gon, there I no receid ot any real drouth and yet there I a possibility of rain com ing and partly retrieving the wneatcrop. While the wheat prospect are not so good the other creps show signs ot large yield. Barley and oas promise large yields. Tne fruit ciop will be the largest feathered in the State. The strawberry crop i about over in Western Oregon, while In the Eat em part of the State it I now being gath ered. Vh cherries are yielding enormous ly. Berries are plentiful. Wheat harvest will begin about the 35th Inst. Hay is Welding well and Its harvest nearly over. B. tf. PAtilfR, Obocrver U. S. Signal Service. RKAL) ESTaTb, HALES.
