Sev eral hundred rortland school children, with many older admirers of Columbia Klver scenery, visited the rooms of the Portland Commercial Club yesterday and inspected the magnificent collection of Hen.tiimin A. The views Included In thia col lection were enlarged and mounted by the artist by special order of William McMur ray, general passenger nirent of the Har viman lines in the Northwest, and "will lie exhibited at the Jamestown Imposi tion and in the principal cities of the Kast. The fame of the scenic Kfandeur of the Columbia River is known throughout the country and a better col lection of high-grade representative views of this scenery was never before gath ered. FtKPAIR MlI.WAUKIK STRBET. ASSUT- ances are given that Milwaukee street will he repaired in a short time. Since dry weather came the residents on that thor oughfare have been living: in an almost continuous cloud of dust. The big street cars seem to pull up the surface of the street and spread it over the surrounding country. Mayor T.ane was appealed to by Rev. Father Gregory, of the Sacred Heart Church, and caused the street to be sprinkled several times during the day, which was some improvement. Mayor Lane's idea is to cover the street with crushed rock or river gravel and tar, fol lowed with oil. He is of the belief that such a street would not be dusty in the Summer or muddy in the Winter. 1'L.AOS for Kxgink Compant. City Au ditor Devlin has presented the Brooklyn and Kast Twenty-eighth street engine companies, Nos. 11 and 12, respectively, each with a handsome American flag, five by ten feet in size.
