Stock Exchanub Opens. The new BtO' k exchange -In the Commonwealth building was opened yesterday morning Ht J I o'clock with a large number in at tendance. The opening ceremonies were performed by President Herman ' "Wit tenberg. Owing- . to the fact that esterday was Saturday and the first day of the existence of the exchange, business was not partic ularly heavy. A number of Portland stocks are among those listed. In add! tion to the miscellaneous and mining stocks, there are also six Hawaiian su gar companies listed. Thirteen banks have been listed. Business will be continued tomorrow, and it is the belief of the mem hers that the stock exchange will grow liftttl .Portland s new enterprise will be on of the largest on the Coast. Drove 35 Miles- With Broken Ieg. C. 1. ldlcman, of Montavllla, had an un- iMeusant experience Thursday. lie naa gone to Welch's camp to bring out the outtit of a party camping on balmon River, in an express wagon. The road was very rough and. striking an obstruc tion, he was thrown out of the wagon. Mr. ldleman landed on hla feet, but the force of his fall was so great that his right leg was fractured midway between the knee and hip. He was alone, but with his broken leg and suffering with great pain, he managed to get back into the wagon and then drove to Gresham, a distance of miles, before he could secure medical assistance. Here the frac ture waa reduced, after which he was brought to his home in Montavilla. Rkfuse Hearing to Jsakson. The ("ivil Service Commission decided yester day morning, that Oskar K. Isakson, the di.Mch urged policeman who instituted the Huit before Judge Frazer to oust Captain Bruin, has no standing before that body. Last Wednesday the commission listened three hours to the Jsakj?on case, which had been appealed. Isakson took a tech nically .illegal examination, as well as Bruin, and therefore the commissioners believe they have no right to hear any appeal from him. This probably means Uie end of the long-fought Isakson case. Will Identify Wayward Girl. Detec tive Hawley, who is probation officer of the Juvenile Court, left last night for Santa Rosa, Cal.t going on request of C. H. Pond, District Attorney, to establish the identity of May Pierce, a girl 16 years Id, whose father was recently kilted by a man named Grill. The girl afterwards tame to Portland and was arrested by Detective Hawley. She was seated in a "buggy' outside her father's residence when the murder was committed, but denies Knowing anything about It. Ray Clopton, the 14-year-old boy who was accidentally shot by his brother Claud Friday night, was resting more comfortably last night, and some hope of his recovery is now enter tained. He is greatly weakened by his wounds, but unless complications set in, physicians say that his life may be saved. Launch Ride, on AVillamette.
