If it had not been for a gang of nolsy boys and other people dangling from win dows and a gangway at the Exposition Building, who thereby secured a free show to. see how the loop was looped last night on the Multnomah Field, without paying the price of admission, there would have been a good deal more pleasure In the per formance. The ordinary patrons of the show comfortably filled the grand-stand, and the space set apar,t for them on the grass, and registered no kick. But not so those free show people. "Wy don't he loop tho loop?" yelled a youth with a sand-paper voice that would have put a fog-horn to shame. Just as the vaudeville part of the show started. He was comfortably perched on a high win dow In the Exposition Building, and he kicked his heels in ecstasy. "Too bad you didn't have the price to get in. sonny;" sang out a man in the grand-stand. It cVd not matter whether tho Arabs were busy turning a surprising number of cartwheels and flip-flops, or the strong man was toying with the giant dumb-bells, or the dogs and monkeys were doing acrobatic feats tho cry of "loop" came from the deadheads. At last Dlavolo was seen examining the structure oved which he proposed to have his tilt with death, and-Charles G. Kll patrlck, ono of the proprietors of the show, said: "The time has come to loop the loop. I want to say right hero that I never run any fake business with my show. It was not a fake that Miss Schaar was to ride on Dlavolo's shoulders while he looped the loop. She would have done so, had the pollco not ordered otherwise. I am willing to bet JMWO with any man in Portland and leave the loop behind me, to demonstrate that the act can be done.' But there were no takers. Dlavolo then started on his perilous ride, and landed .In safety. "Are yon goln' to cut out the high dive. mister?" sung out a boy in the grand stand. "No, sir, we are going to do it -now from the top of tho Exposition Building." said KH patrick. speaking from tho platform. The crowd .gazed with an Interested air at a young man in flesh-colored tights who was being pulled up with a rope to his high perch. He was to try tho high dive. There was a moment of suspense. Then tho performer gave a spring, and landed on his back In the net. Next moment he placed on his coat, and walked off to his tent, as If nothing out of tho ordinary heci happened. That ended tho show, and the performers start north ward on their tour today. COLUMBIA RIVER SCENERY Seen to advantage from deck of a Regulator Line steamer.
