A deed for the oJd Dekum property, which covers two iota t the northwest corner of .First and Washington streets, was Died for record yesterday. The transfer la from Samuel Bruce Huston, the well-known Hlllsboro attorney to "William Galsby. the furnlture dealer, who. for a number of years, has occupied the storerooms on the ground floor. The consideration named Is 171. WG. Sir. Hueton purchased the property some time ago from the Frank Dekum heirs for $40,000, and he consequently made a good turn on the Investment. Mr. Gadsby might have bought when Huston did. had he known. Speaking of his purchase, Mr. Gadeby eald: "I am satisfied and I would not accept SSS.O0O for the property. Peo ple may say I ought to build further up town, but locations are hard to get. and property Is high. Owing to the unsettled labor conditions. It Is difficult to tell how soon a building could be completed. 1 have confidence In the future of the city, and know that I will come out all right, Mr. Gadsby states that he will make some Improvements to the building. Photograpkino in Tnn Tree Tops. "Photographing In the Tree Tops." Illus trating how the best bird-pictures are se cured, and giving the pictorial history of the Red tall hawk. Is the title of a fasci nating little article written In this month's "Country Life In America." by "William L. Flnley. with Illustrations by Henry T. Bohlmnn. both of this city. The pictures are like photographs, so perfect la every detail. The article tells of a pleasant trip up the Columbia River In the Summer of 3SSS, when the location of a hawk's nest was discovered In a Cottonwood grove, near the top of a tree US feet high. Eight feet below the nest, the trunk of the tree branched In such a way that the camera was fastened a little above the nest on the opposite limb. In a good position for a picture. To focus the camera, the photo grapher had to strap himself to a limb and hang backward over a sheer drop of 13) feet. But In eplte of all these difficulties, the pictures were made and the habits of the young hawks noted before they had 'time to fly. The article Is interestingly written.
