Evoking hope and inspiration for the holiday sea- son, “The Miracle Worker,” is one of the most triumphant stories of the human spirit ever told. Shows begin Tuesday, Dec. 8 and contin- ue through Jan. 3. “This miraculous and true tale of hope, redemption and triumph is exactly in line with the spirit of the season, while being a story that believers (and non-believers) of any faith can share with loved ones of almost any age,” said Art- ists Rep Artistic Director, and the play’s director, Dámaso Rodri- guez. Told through the dream-like lens of memory, the play based on the lives of Helen Keller, who be- came deaf and blind as an infant, and her teacher, Anne Sullivan, who enabled her to become one of Agatha Olson as Helen Keller in the Artists Repertory Theater’s performance of “The Miracle Worker.” the most influential women of the 20th Century. “The Miracle Worker” plays on the Artists Repertory Theatre’s Alder Stage at 1516 S.W. Inviting ‘Dr. Miracle’ and ‘Bon Appetit’ The community is invited to enjoy two new shows this holiday season as Portland State Univer- sity Opera presents “Dr. Mira- cle” and “Bon Appetite,” opening Wednesday, Dec. 9, playing back to back every night at 7:30 p.m. through Saturday, Dec. 12, with a final matinee on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. Both show focus on food and consumption and consist of one act each. George Bizet’s “Dr. Mir- acle is a humorous operetta fea- turing the “Omelet Quartet” and the shenanigans of a love-struck snake-oil salesman. “Bon Appé- tit,” is a show based on Julia Child (played by Christine Meadows, Portland State’s director of opera), and a recipe for French chocolate cake.
