KEW ORLEANS, La.. Not. 2. Elev en Chinese members of the crew of the British steamship Klmleaf were wounded early today when guards re sorted to piatol fire to quell a mutiny aboard the vessel. Twenty-four Chinese participated In the riot, which was precipitated when officers of the ship announced that in compliance with federal regula tions no shore leave would be granted. According to reports the Chinese armed themselves with knives, pieces of pipe and scrap iron and rushed from the forecastle to overwhelm the guards. A number srot over the ship and hid In the woods bordering the river. The rapid firing of the guards influenced most of those not wound ed to surrender. Two of the wounded will die. according to reports. The Klmleaf is anchored at Good Hope, about 15 mires above New Or leans. The vessel is operated be tween New Orleans and Tampico. The Federation of Labor is blaming owners of factories for bad eelinK. which is growing between masters and men and withdrawal by the banks of credit, which Is causing a crisis in the small factories. The captains of industry are pretty jjloomy over the results of the metal workers' recent victory in forcing partial control of factories by work men. Their chief representative. Oommcndatore Jarach, who is presi dent of the National Metallurgical and Mechanical Federation makes Chis statement: "Conditions are Buffering from the blow dealt to discipline and produc tion by the men's victory. Its effects are so violent that time must pass be fore they will wear off. The effects of indiscipline with the consequent drop of production will be yet more evi dent in a few weeks or a couple of months at the latest. "But we are already feeling Its effects, both at home and abroad at home with public selling indus trial securities, abroad with the clos ing of a 14 sources of credit. The work men must understand they have got to work and obey if these conditions are to change for the better." The government views the situation fax more hopefully. RAIL SALE DELAY ASKED Denver & Rio Grande Attorneys Petition' Postponement. - NEW 'YORK; Nov. 2. Attorneys for the stockholders' protective commit tee of the Denver & Rio Grande rail was announced Monday that a petition has been filed at Denver, Colo., ask ing postponment for two months of the sale of the Denver property set for November 20, under a judgment for $38,000,000 in favor of the West ern Pacific interests. The statement issued by the at torneys said the petition has been "set down for hearing in the Omaha court for November 15. It is claimed in the petition that the Denver & Rio Grande was wholly controlled and dominated through in terlocking directors by the Missouri Pacific and the Western Pacific under the leadership of George J. Gould, his associates and three firms of banks, which syndicate was purchased by the ilissouri Pacific bonds. AID FOR FARMERS URGED President Asked to Provide Imme diate Credit Relief. Extension ef immediate credit relief to farm ers by executive action pending the reconvening of congress was asked of President Wli&on Monday b;' George Hampton of the Farmers' National council. In company with William H. Johnston, president of the Interna tional Association of Machinists, Mr. Hampton called upon Secretary Tu . multy. who is understood to have promised to present the request to the president at once. It was accompanied by a letter which said the proposals presented were Indorsed by Mr. Johnston, B. M. Jewell of the American Federation of Labor, Warren S. Stone, grand chief of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and Sidney Hillman, presi dent of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers. IDAHO BANKER ARRESTED Ceorge A. HoraJ, Fairfield, Ac cused of Making False Report. BOISE, Idaho. Nov. 2. (Special.) George A. Horal of Fairfield, presi dent and director of the First Na tional bank of Fairfield, which closed its doors during the summer, was arrested jtoday charged with making a false report concerning the finan cial condition of the bank in response to a call from the United States con troller of currency. Hoxs.1 was brought to Boise, fur nished bond in the sum of (3500 and returned home this morning. - t The complaint sets out that on May 4, 1920, Horal, as president and one of the directors of the bank, made a financial statement of the condition of the bank which represented that there was due it from the Hamilton National bank of Denver (100,031.82, which statement was entirely false, as there was nothing due the Fair field bank at the time, wh'ch was well known to Horal when he issued the report."
