20. THE 3IOKXIXG OKEGOXIAX, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2S, 1920 SEfJflTORlAL PLEJt NUDE REPUBLICAN LEADER MAKES APPEAL FOR STAX FIELD. Strong Party Senate Declared to Be Essential In Upholding Policies of President. CHICAGO, Oct. 27. CSpeclaD John P. Adams, vioe-ctiairman of the republican national committee in charge of western headquarters, to- 4ay made this statement regarding the senatorial election in Oregon: It is not enough for a state to choose Harding and Coolidge electors en November 2. A strong republican senate is almost as important as a republican president. To vote for Harding and a democratic senator is to seek to undo with the left hand the good work already done with the right. "The gravest questions -n-Ill come before the United States senate after next March 4. and if President Hard ing is to do for the people what they expect from him he must have a sen ate that will answer those questions right. The whole democratic policy of waste, weakness, international sur render and domestic autocracy has got to be reversed. It cannot be reversed without the help of the senate. "The government extravagance that makes high taxes and high prices has got to be checked and the co-operation of the senate is necessary to check it. "If the voters of Oregon could fully realize all this there would not be the slightest doubt as to the election of Robert N. Stanfield. He will be needed, urgently needed, to fortify the ad ministration after March 4. No dem ocrat, no matter how high minded, could or would be able to do the work Mr. Stanfield as a republican would be able to do." WIFE TAKES NO CHANCES Couple Married Under Lax Mex ican Laws to Be Remarried. Mrs. Ynez Hernandez Kandall took out a marriage license at the county clerk's office yesterday to remarry her husband, Francis V. Randall. It is her desire to cement firmly the lax marriage bonds entered into under the Mexican laws. "Under the common law of Mexico, parties joined in marriage may drift apart without the embarrassment of. a divorce, if desired by either after three months of martial life," ex plained the husband to Deputy Clerk Cook. "I have no intention of de serting, "but am doing this to please her," he continued. Mr. and Mrs. Randall were married about five years ago in Mexico and have two children. He has a rail road position in Mexico and has been taking a special course in Portland for six months. His wife and children have been here with him. After a six months' residence here Mrs. Randall finds that she prefers the American marriage laws and the protection they afford. After being remarried they plan to re.urn to their old home. McCarthy of Portland, as a candidate for justice of the G"regon supreme court at the November election were received by state officials today.
