Bingham In the circuit curt here today ordered the Benedlc- The tine sisters, who conduct the Benedlc- , tine academy at Mount Angel, to re- lease from that Institution Francis Hulm. aged years, who was placed j In the school recently by her father, j Mr. and Mrs. Hulm and daughter arrived at Mount Angel December 3 j from North Dakota, and after leav ing the child at the school Mr. Hulm issued instructions that she was not to be released to her mother or any other person without his consent. Mr. j and Mrs. Hulm then left Mount Angel, but the latter returned a few days later and demanded custody of her . child. ) Loon refusal of the Benedtctine sis- ; ters to accede to the demand of Mrs. Hulm she; Instituted mandamus pro ceedings in the circuit court here to have the child released. No defense was made in court by the Benedictine Bisters, other than to introduce evi dence to show that in refusing to sur render the child to Mrs. Hulm they were acting on instructions of her husband. Mrs. Hulm and her daughter left tonight for Oregon City, where they expect to make their home. Iiooal Investors Want Bonds. MARSHFIELD, Or., Dec. 30. (Spe cial.) The proposed good roads bond issue, to be determined soon by a spe cial election throughout the county, has caused several taxpayers to sug gest that bonds in suitable denomina tions be furnished so that local In vestors may purchase them and give those who are to be assessed for the ' programme a chance to regain part ol their outlay. The suggestion will probably be brought to the attention of the county court before the elec tion is ordered. Hooker Street Resident Robbed. H. A. Brown. 231 Hooker street, re ported to the police last night that he had been held up at First and Hooker streets and robbed of J23 cash, a diamond ring, a diamond stickpin, a gold band ring and a watch. The robbery was committed by one highwayman, whom Mr. Brown describes as 30 years old. about five feet six inches tall, and weighing about 160 pounds. The robber wore a brown cap and a dark overcoat.
